Spring Nail Polish Trends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Let’s be real here: money doesn’t grow on trees, and as much as we wish we could still mooch off our parents to pay for that $40 manicure, sometimes that just doesn’t fly anymore. I know the only time I get treated to a mani/pedi is when I head home to mama. But I have to do something to hold me over between manicures! What’s a girl to do?

I decided to scope out the latest spring trends for nails, and boy did I come across some great finds! Now that I’ve stocked up on some of the latest nail trends, I decided to share with you a few of my personal favorites.

Keepin’ it Simple: 50 Shades of Green
Green nails, no matter what color, are really in right now. Whether it’s emerald, mint, or lime, a mani in one of these hues will have your friends green with envy. Sephora has the great multi-pack (above) featuring mint and emerald shades of green, with even some sparkle. This multi-pack is only $18. What a steal!

The Funky French
Instead of boring white, shake things up and add a little bit of spice to your French manicure! I love the way the nude nail polish complements the bright colors used on the tips of the nails in the photo on the left. For a more uniform look, the hot pink and gray nails in the picture on the right definitely do the trick! For this style, you simply purchase at least two complementing colors – one for the base, one for the tips. Sounds pretty simple, right?

Matte Nails
Instead of typical glossy nail polish, switch it up and try a matte finish. You can use any nail polish color you have at home and top it off with a matte coat. You can do designs, French tips, or simple all-matte. Sephora sells a matte top coat for $9.50. Less than $10 to transform your entire nail polish collection? I call that a deal!

Getting Crazy: Magnetic Nail Polish
This may look difficult, but I promise you, a chimpanzee could do it. You have to buy magnetic nail polish to get this look, but it’s well worth it! All you do is paint it on like regular nail polish. Then, while it’s wet, hold the magnet that comes with the polish over your nail. Voila! You now have a unique look for your nails. Here’s a quick tip: hold the magnet at different sides of each nail to get a funkier look! Sephora sells magnetic nail polish for around $16.00. Not too shabby when you have virtually unlimited uses!

Oh Splat!
This nail polish by KBShimmer is definitely one of my favorites. It gives your nails a bit of an edge without being too over the top or in-your-face sparkly. To get this look, all you need is three coats of the Oh Splat! nail polish and you’re set. This nail polish can be found on the KBShimmer website for only $8.75!

Caviar Nails
This is my all-time favorite look for nails. The bright colors remind me of sprinkles on a cupcake. You can purchase a kit by Ciaté to get this look, but you can also buy similar beads from any local craft store. The kit from Sephora, which includes a nail polish and the “caviar beads” is $25.00. A little on the pricier side but still cheaper than a mani!
