Spotlight on Alpha Chi Omega – Our Holiday Party Winners!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Congratulations to Alpha Chi Omega, the sorority here at UF that had the most sisters attend our holiday party at Wolfgang! Because Alpha Chi Omega brought the most girls to our event, we decided to explain to our readers why the chapter is so special.

Alpha Chi Omega was founded in 1885 at DePauw University. The national mission of this chapter is to “seek the heights.” The members of the Gamma Iota chapter here at UF are more than successful in doing so, as many have recently earned leadership roles in the Panhellenic community as well as on campus. Some members of Alpha Chi Omega have received leadership positions on the Panhellenic Executive Board, while others were tapped into Florida Blue Key and earned positions in Student Government.

Members of Alpha Chi Omega not only seek the heights for themselves but also for the better of the entire chapter. This year, their annual philanthropy, G.I. Alpha Chi, gathered the IFC Fraternities to compete in a number of army-related obstacles. Members of Alpha Chi Omega coached and cheered on teams while the guys crawled under barbed wire, carried each other for three-legged races and stormed through a 72-foot blow-up obstacle course. Next year, the sisters of Alpha Chi Omega hope to incorporate a Panhellenic bracket so girls can enjoy their event, too.

Nationally, Alpha Chi Omega supports victims of domestic violence, and uses their philanthropy events to raise money for the cause. UF’s chapter of Alpha Chi Omega benefits a local Gainesville non-profit, Peaceful Paths, rather than a national organization. Peaceful Paths is a shelter that provides assistance to abused women and their children. The shelter protects them and supplies them with housing for an unlimited amount of time. The shelter acts as a home away from home until the women can provide for themselves and their children on their own.

The sisters of the Gamma Iota chapter of Alpha Chi Omega were extremely excited to attend the Her Campus holiday party at Wolfgang. Multiple girls walked out with super cute and trendy dresses and handbags, all at amazing discounts. They said they hope to attend many more Her Campus events and are always ready to “bring it” in any friendly competitions Her Campus holds… especially when the contest involves shopping at a local Gainesville boutique!
