Say Yes To The Dress: Finding The Perfect Gameday Attire

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Nothing compares to waking up on Saturday morning when there’s a game at The Swamp. Sure, gameday is about our boys dominating on the field, but by now, you should know there’s much more to Saturdays than just Gator football.

Ladies, in Gainesville… even The Swamp can be your runway. That means the pressure is on, but don’t worry this week, I’ve included a few tips that will help you find the perfect gameday outfit. Here’s what you should focus on during your search:

Color: Orange and Blue. It’s that simple. We’re part of the Gator Nation, so be proud to wear the rich blue and bold orange. It’s key to wear these colors right, and by right, I mean stay away from wearing orange if the boys are playing Tennessee (even if it’s a different shade). You don’t want people thinking for a second that you’re supporting the opposing team.

Accessories: Accessories will make or break any outfit. There’s no need to spend more than $60 on a gameday dress when you can just accessorize something you already have at home. You can wear a simple solid dress with a big cute necklace, and bam! You are gameday ready. You can also use hair accessories, hats, or a light scarf to dress up your outfit. Just don’t over do it. Bigger doesn’t always make it better.

Uniqueness: One colliegette’s trash is another colliegette’s treasure.  Go to your local thrift store and look for any neat pieces to put together that will make your gameday attire one of a kind. You may find a cute blue skirt you can dress well with an orange top. You know you’ve succeeded when you don’t see a gator gal rockin’ the same outfit as you.  Pinterest is another resource to take advantage of because there are hundreds of “Do-it-Yourself” tutorials for gameday dresses.

Comfort: I get the title says “Say Yes to the Dress,” but the goal is to wear the gameday outfit you feel fabulous in while respecting your comfort level. Dresses may not always be your garment of choice. You may prefer to wear shorts and a comfortable top, and that’s perfectly fine. Just remember: all it takes to kick your gameday outfit up a notch is something small, like an orange belt, a blue necklace, or a cute hair bow that make it one of a kind.

Happy shopping, collegiettes!
And Happy Homecoming!

Go Gators!
