Savvy Updates: Winter Warm-ups

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

With the harsh gusts of winter starting to come in full speed, this week’s Savvy Update is about how to keep your skin moisturized and glowing in even the harshest winter temperatures. Follow these steps, and you can smartly avoid dry skin this season.

Keep drinking water. With temperatures lower than our sunny Florida norm, it’s easy to forget to continuously drink water throughout the day since you’re not trying to stay hydrated in the hot weather. If you continue to drink at least eight glasses of water a day, your skin will be hydrated and less likely to become dry and unhealthy.

Protect yourself. When it’s cold out, make sure to dress appropriately and moisturize before going anywhere. If your skin is moisturized before you head in to the elements, you’ll be less likely to begin to get dry winter skin symptoms such as itching.

Treat your skin. After a long day of being outside, treat yourself to a treatment for your skin such as an exfoliating body scrub. Keeping your skin healthy during winter will not only make you look younger longer, but also will make you feel better!

Don’t forget your lips. Since they’re often uncovered, your lips often affected the most by brutal winds and dry air. Your lips have very thin layers of skin on them, which means they’re easily chapped. Wear lip balm to keep them protected – but not the kind that comes out of a little pot, according to WebMD (http://www.webmd.com/healthy-beauty/features/why-your-lips-are-chapped?page=2). Dipping your finger into the balm and applying it is unsanitary. Go for something like Neosporin Lip Health Daily Hydration Therapy to keep yourself under-the-mistletoe-kissable.

Remember these tips next time you’re heading out in to the blustery winds of Gainesville so that your skin will stay radiant and hydrated! You’ll glow – and I mean the good, happy kind – in your family pictures this holiday season.
