Recreate Lana Del Rey’s Style With 4 Video-Inspired Outfits

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

I recently went to Lana Del Rey’s “LA to the Moon” Concert, and I forgot how much of a fashion icon she is until I saw her in person. I can remember listening to her during my early years of high school and always being drawn to her vintage vibe. Plus, her music videos are second to none — they are mostly cinematic masterpieces with distinct story lines, and most importantly, incredible fashion. I’ve created four looks inspired by Lana del Rey’s music videos that you can recreate.

Born to Die

“Born to Die” was one of Lana Del Rey’s first music videos and featured a couple different looks throughout. One of the more iconic looks from this video was Lana’s striking white gown and her oversized flower crown made of teal and white roses. To steal some inspiration from this dramatic video, you can wear a white flowy jumpsuit, some platform sandals, a jean jacket (a note to her more casual outfit in this video) and, finally, a teal headband in case flower crowns aren’t your thing. Here’s to hoping you have better luck in this outfit than Lana did at the end of this video!

Love

“Love” is one Lana’s most recent music videos and features her iconic look from the cover of her latest album “Lust for Life.” This retro style video gives you all the 70s feels from the candid shots of young couples to the black and white footage of Lana performing. You can recreate Lana’s sweet and vintage look with a floral bell sleeved dress, slide-on heels and instead of putting daisies in your hair, you can opt for a more subtle look with daisy shaped earrings. This timeless look is easy to recreate and perfect for spring!

National Anthem

There’s no denying that “National Anthem” is a visual masterpiece. It’s like a short movie featuring Lana and A$AP Rocky as Jackie O and JFK, respectively. This music video makes me want to move to the Hamptons and live every day like it’s the Fourth of July. You don’t have to wear a fit-and-flare dress and matching cardigan to steal Lana’s 60s vibe. You just need a comfy sweater, some light colored shorts, chunky sandals and a statement headband. Wearing this outfit, you’ll fit right in with the Kennedys.

Ride

Last, but certainly not least, is my personal favorite look of Lana’s. “Ride” gives you all the American feels (besides “National Anthem” of course) and I’m here for it. Much of the video is dedicated to Lana joining a motorcycle gang, but at least she looks good doing it. You can recreate this classic Americana look with some denim shorts, a graphic t-shirt, Converse, and of course, a fringe jacket. Hopefully, you’ll wear a helmet if you are considering hopping on the back of the motorcycle in this outfit!

There you have it — four looks for four different Lana videos. Hopefully you find some style inspiration from one of my favorite artists.
