Quotes n’ Notes: Her Life Guidebook

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

“Quotes n’ Notes: Her Life Guidebook” is a blog about the things women like you face in their lives and how to deal with them. Here at Her Campus UFL, we recognize women as strong, beautiful, and fabulous. There are times in life when a woman doesn’t feel that way and times when she does, but either way, Quotes n’ Notes has something to say about what she’s going through. Love, loss, struggle, big life decisions – it’s all covered right here. Each entry begins with a quote from a woman with some sort of legacy. Whether she is an actress, chef, writer, or whatever else, she found she had something to tell the world and, therefore, something to tell her fellow females. With each quote, you’ll find insightful notes on how to live well and be the best woman you can be. Whether it’s sad, serious, or just plain silly, Quotes n’ Notes will always give you a push in the right direction.

“The past, I think, has helped me appreciate the present – and I don’t want to spoil any of it by fretting about the future.” -Audrey Hepburn

Happy New Year, collegiettes! The year 2013 has just begun, and with a new year comes many new experiences – experiences that will bring more changes in each and every one of your lives. Alhough the New Year is a time to start over, it is essential to remember the past, as well. Without the person you became in 2012, you wouldn’t be the person you are now. The past can sometimes be painful, full of sorrow, regret, and misfortune. But, you have survived it and come out on top. The past isn’t solely painful, either; it is full of special memories you will cherish for a lifetime. Though the bad may be something you wish to erase in the coming year, you can’t and must move forward. Though it is sometimes hard to accept, the past is irreversible. This may sound unfortunate, but ask yourself this: would you rather go back and do things differently so the person you are today would be different, or would you rather accept and learn from your past to embrace who you are going to be into your future?

If there is one piece of advice that I, or Audrey Hepburn, can give you going into this year, it is to choose the latter, and love the life you lead. Be proud of who you have become and enjoy today because that is what life is about, living happily in the now. The truth is, we all have things we aren’t proud of. We’re all on this crazy ride called “life” together, and given the unpredictability of life, we might as well make the best of it. So hold tight to those New Year’s resolutions, and make them happen. You never know, 2013 may pleasantly surprise you.
