Little Ways to Brighten Someone’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

I really love the little things in life. As the cliché stands, “It’s not the big things, it’s the little things,” and that’s one I stand by. It’s thoughtful to do small things solely in hopes of making people smile. These are a few thoughtful things to consider doing for someone you care about!

Send snail mail
This, in my opinion, is something entirely underrated. My parents still send me cards in the mail, and it never fails to make me smile when I open my mailbox. I sent my friends Christmas cards over break, and I think I had just as much fun sending them as they were happy to know I was thinking of them.

Surprise someone with their favorite coffee
I’m big into coffee, so when someone knows how I like my coffee, I consider them very thoughtful. Any time I’ve had a friend bring me a hot cup of Starbucks, I’ve been ridiculously excited. Take the time to notice a friend’s coffee order, and bring it to them when they need a mid-afternoon pick-me-up.

Leave a note on their windshield
Not necessarily a prank one, but a nice one. A little post-it with a friendly reminder that you love them is a good way to make anyone instantly smile.

Send a care package
If you have a friend you don’t get to see regularly, consider crafting them a custom care package. It doesn’t have to be anything big or expensive — just fill it with some of their favorite things, whether it be nail polish, photos, sour gummies or all of the above.

Pick someone up
I have a class that runs until 10 p.m., so it’s always really nice when a friend can do me the favor of meeting up with me to go home. It makes my evening a little less stressful not worrying how I’m going to get home. Consider picking your friend up from class if you know they’re having a particularly long or rough day.

To anyone reading this: I hope you have a wonderful day! Don’t forget to stop and revel in the small things every now and then.
