How to Wear the Colors of Fall: Pumpkin & Mustard

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

When you think of fall, images of pumpkins and the changing colors of leaves may be some of the first thoughts in your mind. Recently, I’ve noticed two colors, pumpkin orange and mustard yellow, becoming increasingly popular just in time for the fall season. Here are some trendy ways I’ve found to get your wardrobe ready for a pumpkin and mustard-colored takeover this autumn.

1. Dress it up with a mustard jumpsuit

I find that mustard is a perfect shade of yellow for the fall time. Brighter yellows, such as dandelion, tend to be more ideal for summer, while a darker shade like mustard is more suited for the upcoming colder weather. This mustard jumpsuit, pictured above from Nordstrom, is a great piece to have in your wardrobe for late nights out when the weather calls for longer pants.

2. Get cozy in a pumpkin kimono/cardigan

At least for Florida, the warm weather doesn’t change much, even between seasons. That’s why a flowy kimono fits right into the Florida fall weather scene; it’s lightweight, yet covers up enough to feel like you’re actually up north. The pumpkin-orange colored kimono featured above can be found online and in Francesca’s stores this fall.

3. Cuddle up in a mustard-colored sweater.

If you happen to get a little chilly, a lightweight sweater under a jacket will do the trick of warming you up. Personally, and for aesthetic reasons, I like to get sweaters that are a little big so I can roll up the sleeves. H&M carries the cozy mustard-colored sweater you see above, available online here.

4. Bundle up with pumpkin in a jacket.

Nothing says fall like roasting marshmallows with some friends, so why not wear a festive jacket to celebrate the occasion? If you need to add some flair to your outfit, you can find this pumpkin-colored jacket at Forever 21.

5. Wear pumpkin in a cool, modern top.

Choker t-shirts are a fun staple for this year. Having one in a pumpkin color means you can celebrate fall while still looking great. For a simple yet cool, modern top I would suggest the shirt pictured above from Target.

6. Keep it classy in a mustard-colored dress.

Dresses don’t only have to be for the spring or summertime. You can easily transform a warm weather dress for cold weather by layering it with an oversized jacket or sweater.

If you’re interested in a perfect fall dress, this beautiful mustard-colored dress above is from Berksha.

7. Show some flair in a pair of pumpkin-framed sunglasses.

The weather might get a little chillier, but if you’re in Florida you will still have to deal with sunny weather! Invest in a cool pair of orange-framed sunglasses that gets you in the seasonal spirit while protecting your eyes. Featured above is a chic pair of sunglasses from Sunglass Warehouse, which you can purchase here.

Overall, there are a variety of ways to channel the colors of pumpkin and mustard in your wardrobe this fall. You can also pair them with other traditional seasonal colors, like candy-apple red or forest green. Show me how you wear your fall colors by tagging me on instagram at @elenamika!
