How to Keep Yourself Busy During a Quarantine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

If you’ve spent the last two weeks re-watching Gossip Girl, White Claw in hand and Dorito dust on finger, there will come a time where you can’t tell one day from the next, and you’ll be itching to get back to a routine. With the switch to online classes came a swarm of discussion posts and daily Zoom meetings, but when it can all be done from your bed, where there are surely Netflix and seltzers already waiting, it’s oh so tempting to turn off your video and sound on the conference call and completely tune out. But for the benefit of your grades and your sanity, it’s important to keep some semblance of a routine. Here’s how you can be productive with your quarantine.

Put together a daily schedule

Now that we have online classes and most places are closing down for a few weeks, there is so much free time. Since we are stuck at home, it may be hard to still remain as productive as we were during the regular school year. You’ll need to remind yourself that we still have online classes and other things that need to be done. It may be hard at first, but there are ways that you can make sure to still get things done even from home. Start out by making a daily schedule for yourself and stick to it. Schedule a time in the morning each day to get up early to make the most out of your day and have time to eat a healthy breakfast. Then make sure to include any online classes or other responsibilities that you have for that day.

Organize your planner

Another key part in making sure that you remain as productive as when you are in normal school would be to organize your planner with everything that you need to do. The transition from having classes on campus versus online can be hard for some people. Therefore, to make the transition easier for yourself and to make sure you still remain as successful as if you were actually in-class organize your planner to include all your online classes and their deadlines. This will help you to make sure you never get behind on an online lecture or zoom class. Also, it will help you to keep track of deadlines, so you don’t procrastinate because you are at home.

Write down your goals

This is also a great time to check in on your goals for this year. It may be hard during the school year to work on your goals that you set for yourself because you’re busy with long days of classes. But this free time that you have now is the perfect time to keep track of your progress, work on those goals, or write down new goals that you wish to achieve.

Clean out your closet

Your closet may be very cluttered, and you could have clothing pieces that you have not worn for years. In your free time, you should go through your clothes and pick out clothes you want to start wearing to update your wardrobe or make a pile of clothes that you do not want anymore to donate in the future.

Spend time with your family/pets

Being a busy college student can take away from the time that we have to spend with our families and pets too. While at home, this is a great time to reconnect with your family and spend more time playing with your pets.

Start a new hobby

Finding a new hobby that you love is also a great way to pass the time in quarantine or if you are bored at home. I recently just started making Pinterest boards, which is really fun or you could try out other things like drawing, reading, journaling to see what you like best.

Plan something fun when quarantine is over

In order to help you stay positive about this situation, another fun thing to do would be to plan all the things you want to do when quarantine is over. Summer is coming up soon, so planning fun things to do with your friends will get you excited about the future. You will definitely appreciate this when quarantine is finally over.

Shop for summer outfits

Also, since summer is almost here, you can start online shopping for cute summer outfits to wear. Something really fun to shop for is cute swimsuits, so if you are hoping to be in the Sun over the summer, I would definitely recommend this because there are plenty of online shops with great swimsuits.

These activities should help you to find something productive or fun with your free time, so that you will not have to be extremely bored during quarantine or while at home!
