Everyone knows that skincare is incredibly important, and the way you take care of it definitely shows. Even in Florida, the winter season brings frigid weather, making it extremely easy for your skin to dry. This can lead to flaking, dullness and, in the future, wrinkles. In order to prevent these issues, a skincare routine should be a part of your everyday to-do list so you’ll have perfect skin for years to come. Through some research, I found some tricks you can use in your daily skincare routine and some products to keep your skin glowing all season long.

Keep your skin healthy

Don’t use hot water on your skin

Using hot water to wash your face and hands can irritate your skin and dry it further. These are very sensitive parts of the body, so treat them well. Opt for colder water when washing your skin to decrease the chance of irritation and dryness.

Don’t use a drying face wash

During warmer weather, using a drying facial cleanser may help you avoid acne getting rid of all the sweat clogging your pores. When it’s cold, however, this type of cleanser may cause problems for your skin by making it extra dry. Instead, use a facial cleanser that is more sensitive on the skin and doesn’t have any drying ingredients like alcohol.

Use a moisturizer in the morning and before bed

Moisturizers for your skin are important for keeping your skin from drying out and flaking. It’s essential that you use a moisturizer in the morning and at night during the winter because the cold temperature sucks the moisture from your skin. And it’ll even prevent wrinkles!

Use: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Water Gel Face Moisturizer ($16.99 at Target)

Use a hand lotion

Your hands, like your face, can become very dry in the cold temperatures. This can lead to irritation on your hands and cause the skin to crack. To avoid this, and to keep your hands moisturized, bring a hand lotion in your bag so you can apply it throughout the day.

Use: Neutrogena Hand Cream ($5.99 at Target)

Get your glow back

Use a self-tanner

When bundled in sweaters or locked indoors to hide from the cold, it’s impossible to upkeep a tanned glow. Add some more color back to your skin with a self-tanner. There are plenty of great self-tanners that are easy to apply at home and will add life to your skin.

Try: St. Tropez Gradual Tan Classic Everyday Body Lotion ($25 at Sephora)

Use a body shimmer

If you want your skin to have an extra glowy look, I would suggest using a body shimmer. There are body shimmer lotions and sprays available if you want your skin to glow and look super healthy. They also can be used for a night out if you want to add an extra hint of sparkle.

Try: Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector ($19 at Ulta Beauty)

Use a face highlighter

Face highlighters have peaked in popularity and they will work perfectly to add shine to your skin during the winter. There are so many different types of highlighters out now for you to choose from with several shade options, so you can find the one that looks the best on your skin.

Try: Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter ($36 at Sephora)

Winter is coming! Prepare for the cold by keeping yourself and your skin hydrated, and don’t forget to add some color back to your look.
