Valentine’s Day is often considered as the day where couples and loved ones show one another that they care about each other. However, some collegiates refer to the famous holiday as “Single’s Awareness Day” or, in their minds, the worst day ever.

Thankfully, in today’s society, women are seen as more independent and successful than ever before and that should be no different on Valentine’s Day whether they are single or not.

Here are 10 ways you can enjoy Valentine’s Day this year without having a boyfriend; just remember that the one universal thing on this list is spending time with people that you love. After all, that’s what Valentine’s Day is all about, whether you have a significant other or not.

Pamper Yourself
Valentine’s Day serves the perfect day for girls to treat themselves better than they do on an everyday basis. Grab a few of your girlfriends and head over to the spa to get treated like a princess from head to toe. Massages, manicures and pedicures, and tanning can go a long way toward helping you forget about your ‘Valentine’s Day blues.’ You’ll be feeling like a million bucks in no time.

Have a Movie Night
Arrange the girls to get together and watch movies all night. Pop some popcorn and get under the blankets for a night full of those chick flicks that your imaginary boyfriend probably wouldn’t want to watch anyway. This would be the perfect time for you to watch the girl-power movies that you’ve been dying to see and have a much needed girls night at the same time.

Go Out to Eat
Ask a group of your single friends or family members to meet you at a fancy restaurant. Who doesn’t like to eat and mingle with their loved ones? Not only will you be having some amazing food, but you can also have a great time doing it and you won’t have to be that girl who goes to a restaurant alone. If you want to make it extra fun while you’re out with the girls, play a game. Go up to five guys that you wouldn’t normally go up to and strike up a conversation. Who knows, maybe you’ll find prince charming.

Have a Party
Gather your fellow singles, both men and women, and throw a party! Have some drinks and music—maybe even play a few crazy party games. A night of fun keeps everyone happy and the notion of needing a significant other on Valentine’s Day out of sight, out of mind.

Try Something New
This Valentine’s Day use the time you would be spending with your significant other and try something you’ve never tried before or something that you’ve been wanting to be a part of for a long time. For example, do something crazy like skydiving or sign up for that fitness class you’ve been eyeing. It would the perfect stress reliever for the day.

Be a Secret Admirer
This is similar to Secret Santa, only Valentine’s Day style. A week before Valentine’s Day put the names of each person in the group in a hat. Each person will make a gift from the heart for their assigned person and every day until Valentine’s Day they will leave little hints at their “Secret Admirer’s” door. On Valentine’s Day, secret admirers will be revealed and the final gift will be given. This makes for a fun way to bond with friends and lighten the dreary Singles Awareness Day mood.

Babysit
Being single on Valentine’s may not seem like fun, but it certainly has its perks. As much as it may stink watching a family friend’s kids on the day where you feel like you should be out on a date yourself, think of it this way; you’re making money!

Indulge Yourself
Go shopping! Retail therapy works better than almost anything when a girl is single on Valentine’s Day. Whether you get that hot dress you’ve been looking at online for weeks or you just replace the jeans you recently grew out of, spending a little bit of cash on yourself isn’t a bad thing when you’re supposed to be sharing the love—this time, just love yourself.

Show Others You Care
You may not be in a relationship, but you still have friends. Pick up cute valentines from the store and leave them at your neighbors’ doors. You can make new friends and show the ones you have already that you appreciate them and wish them love on Valentine’s Day.

Volunteer
A perfect way to keep yourself busy on a day were it seems that everyone has someone they care about is helping people who may not have anyone at all. Volunteering at homeless shelters and hospitals in the area is a different way of showing people you care but has the same effect, if not more, of showing loved ones that you care.

Make the best of Valentine’s Day this year whether you’re in a relationship or not.
Just have fun with it!
