A Holiday Gift Guide for Your SO

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

You either look forward to shopping for holiday gifts or you absolutely dread it. Whatever your feelings are towards gift shopping, there’s no denying the extra pressure in choosing the perfect gift for your significant other. You want something unique but still romantic; something that they’ll actually enjoy – not just a generic romantic gift. If you’re a bit clueless on what to get your special someone, here’s a nifty guide with potential suggestions.

For the athlete: If your SO is always at the gym or passionate about sports teams, why not get him or her something to wear all the time. Activate Apparel has a host of workout tees and tanks, with slogans that range from funny to motivational.

For the geek: Nothing says Christmas like ugly sweaters. And what’s a more perfect gift than an ugly sweater with a fandom-inspired pattern? If your SO can’t stop raving about Guardians of the Galaxy or Star Wars, think about getting him or her one of these cute sweaters.

For the foodie: Bookstores often have sales on cookbooks. Snag a few for your SO and stick some cute sticky notes on recipes that you’d like to try together. Not only will you have a super romantic time cooking together, but you’ll also get a yummy meal out of it.

For the music-lover: Surprise your music-loving SO with a personalized playlist. Pick songs that make you think of him or her, songs that you’ve listened to together or songs that make you want to dance. When you’ve created the perfect mix, you can save it to a USB that looks like a cassette tape — definitely a nice vintage touch that your SO will appreciate!

For the artist:  Find a nice journal or notebook — something that’s really beautiful. Instead of just presenting the blank journal to your SO, take the time to write on a few of the pages. Little notes in the corner that show how much you love him or her, love quotes from famous pop culture and tiny doodles… anything that comes from your heart. It’ll make the gift more special.

For the romantic: It’s always hard to pick a gift for your SO when he or she is more romantic than you. But trying to out-do each other isn’t the way to go! If you’re crafty, making a scrapbook of your special moments — using photos, old ticket stubs, mementos, etc. — will really make your SO swoon. If crafting isn’t your thing, you can still turn up the romance by taking advantage of Florida’s sunny winter weather with a holiday picnic.

If you’ve gotten a better idea for a present, then congratulations! Your SO will love it! And if you’re still a bit intimidated by the whole prospect, just remember that any gift to your SO will make them smile because it’s from you. Happy shopping!
