HC UFL’s Monthly Favorites: Pre-Fall Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

It’s finally fall in The Swamp, and that means our team of girls at Her Campus UFL has a fresh batch of monthly favorites. From skincare to beauty and beyond, here’s a peek at our favorite products, trends and bites for the season.

Skincare

Typically, cooler temperatures tend to wreak havoc on gals with dry complexions. Fortunately for us at HC UFL, Gainesville’s humidity hasn’t let up yet, meaning that our skincare routines are less about moisturizing and more about cleansing and balancing our skin.

Victoria Young, PR team member, chose Caudalie’s Instant Foaming Cleanser as her favorite face wash for September. It’s perfect for sensitive skin as it gently cleanses without leaving any residue behind for a squeaky clean face. A toner that two of our editorial team members have been obsessed with is the Trader Joe’s Rose Water Facial Toner. Viviana Moreno, feature writer, and Darcy Schild, editor-in-chief, both find this inexpensive, rose-scented toner to purify the skin by removing excess oils. Feature writer Cassidy Hopson found herself using The Body Shop’s Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask this month to deep clean and smoothen her complexion.

Beauty

In the beauty category, we’ve been loving a mix of high-end and low-end products to perfect our fall looks.

For hair, feature editor Arianna Medina loves the way that Garnier’s 1 Minute Hair Masks have left her tresses feeling healthy and silky smooth.

This season, our makeup looks have favored eyes as the star of the show. Some of our picks include Glossier’s Lidstar Cream Eyeshadow in the shade Cub for its foolproof application and shimmery finish, Kat Von D’s Signature Brow Precision Pencil for defining and filling in our brows and NYX’s Natural Eyeshadow Palette filled with warm-toned browns perfect for fall.

Fashion

Although our temperatures are still higher than we’d prefer, we’ve still found ways to transition our wardrobes from summer to autumn while remaining weather-appropriate.

Feature writer Cayela Cuevas adores pairing corduroy skirts in autumnal shades such as hunter green, sienna and mustard with neutral colored crop-tops from her summer wardrobe. Denim overall dresses are a versatile and timeless pick for PR team member Victoria Young. Similar to Young, fellow PR team member Olivia Trejo prefers paper-bag waisted pants, which are a comfortable and stylish take on typical business-casual attire.

Food

We know that everyone’s excited about Pumpkin Spice Latte Season at Starbucks, but aside from pumpkin-spice-flavored everything, a couple of meals have been our go-tos during the month of September.

For those searching for healthier comfort food options, look no further than feature writer Summerlyn Murray’s favorite Cauliflower Gnocchi from Trader Joes. This veggie-based option is a quick and filling alternative to regular pasta. For those with more adventurous palates, try feature writer Carolina Watlington’s favorite Poke Bowl. One way to prepare this is to top your white rice with salmon, tuna, avocado, pineapple and tempura flakes for a nutritious yet indulgent bowl for your autumn evening.

Whether you’re still in summer mode or you’re enjoying the first cool breeze of autumn, we hope some of our favorites will inspire you to live your best life this fall!
