Football season has finally kicked off, and we’re off to a great start. Go Gators! And with football season comes every gators favorite thing– tailgates. This is a time to really enjoy your weekend with some good friends, great memories and hopefully a cute Instagram or two. But in order for that Insta-worthy photo, you have to be sure to look your best! So here’s a list of five staple pieces you should own to ensure every game day is one for the books.

1. Rompers

A lot of people like wearing dresses for game day, which look nice but can not be the best, most comfortable thing for a long day outside in Florida’s heat. A romper is the perfect solution, you can still look dressed up while feeling like you’re dressed down.

2. Cowboy boots or converse

A lot of people’s first instinct may be to throw on a cute pair of sandals and head out the door, ready for game day, and I am definitely one to prefer flip-flops over anything, but this might not be the best idea. Tailgates, walking around campus and up and down the stadium are not exactly “sandal friendly.” Tailgate floors, particularly at fraternity houses, are usually pretty gross, you can easily get dirt all over your feet here, or soda spilled on you. And the walking all day on your feet might not be the most comfortable and you can easily trip going up the stadium stairs. Cowboy boots or converse are your best bet for a cute, yet comfortable game day shoe.

3. Hair pieces

Again, game days are HOT. I don’t always pull my hair back, but when I don’t I usually regret it and my hair will probably be up in an ugly ponytail by the end of the day. Find cute hair pieces and do your hair before you leave for the day, that way you can have it look cute and not like a second-thought once it’s all frizzed out. One of my favorites is a partial French braid. I French braid my hair half way down and then let the rest of it stay down (so the braid is mostly made up of my bangs). I tie the end of the braid with an orange and blue pom pom hair tie so it looks cute. You can also do two French braids and even add a ribbon within the braid to add in some orange and blue.

4. Cute bandeau

Chances are a lot of tops, dresses or rompers you have are low-cut/backless/etc. which then brings up the question, “What bra do I wear?” There are obviously a million different answers but one of my favorites is to wear a bandeau underneath that way you can add in more orange and blue. Plus bandeaus are super comfy!

5. Trendy sunglasses

Sunglasses are an obvious necessity for Florida days, which means you’ll probably be wearing them in multiple pictures not even realizing they were on. Sometimes it can really change a picture- though it may not stop you from posting the pic, you could definitely enhance it with a pair of trendy sunglasses. My favorite sunglasses are a pair from Forever 21 that have purple-mirrored lenses with mirrored cat-eye rims. They always look really chic and almost always make my Instagram because they make me look a lot cooler than I am.

Game days are lots of fun, and hopefully with these pieces, you’re sure to have the cutest, most flexible game day outfits all season long. Remember to have fun and enjoy these days because you only get to live like a freshman for four years. Go gators and keep on chomping!
