Fall Frills

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

As fall progresses and the cold fronts start heading our way (fingers crossed!), accruing out seasonal scarves and hats becomes something to look forward to. But what do you look for when you want to add to your collection?

When it comes to winter accessories, you want a balance between fashionable and warm. Look for thicker-knit scarves in fall colors — gold, blue, red, green, oxblood and orange, to name a few — that will coordinate with the variety of jackets and sweaters you own. Larger scarves are best for nippy weather because they cover your neck better, and you can tuck your chin and nose behind them if it’s a windy day.

As for hats, the same general rule applies. If you can find a hat that will cover your ears, you’ll kill two birds with one stone. Most of your body heat is lost through your head, so accessorize wisely. Of course, with hats you have a bit more leeway when it comes to style and colors than you do scarves.

Below are some of my picks for this season:

Forever 21 Polka Dot Contrast Scarf, $12.80
Accessories are supposed to be fun, and scarves are no exception. This cute white and black polka dot scarf is warm, whimsical and will go with almost everything.

Modcloth Season Change is Good Scarf in Day, $29.99
I’m huge fan of Modcloth (and their adorable names). I love how this scarf incorporates grey/lavender and rose in with the gold. Plus, this knit is bound to keep you nice and toasty.

Modcloth One Accessory Wonder Scarf in Pink (by Tulle Clothing), $24.99
This scarf is absolutely adorable — and totally flirty! With its bright color and feminine bow-embellished pockets, you’re bound to turn heads.

Target Merona Grey/Black Floral Scarf, $15.99
This scarf brings in a feminine pattern with a splash of gold for color — perfect to pair with a neutral-colored jacket or solid-colored sweater.

Target Merona Blue/Pink Oversized Plaid Scarf, $14.99
Plaid is a classic fall print. If you’re a plaid lover, this scarf adds the perfect amount of color for a variety of outfits — whether it’s peeking out under a navy blue coat or over top of a cute long-sleeved shirt.

Modcloth Ice Cap Hat (by Tulle Clothing), $19.99
This cheery knit cap will be sure to keep you warm. Its precious bow adds a feminine touch that would look extra cute if worn off-center — a nice touch to spice up an original knit cap.

Target Merona Red Packable Cloche, $12.99
This dainty hat will keep your ears and full head covered. Pair with complementary scarf and a pea coat, and you’re ready for a picturesque stroll through the park.

Forever 21 Sequined Beanie (Peach), $8.80
Have a bit if sparkly fun! It’s thin enough that you can wear it on warmer days, and it’s sure to keep you in a perky mood.

Stay warm, and keep it classy, collegiettes!
