When iPhone users search through the app store, there are numerous apps to choose from.

However, users are likely to download the main social media applications.

Whether it’s Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, or Twitter, app users follow trends. Once word spreads, apps become more popular.

In 2014, a video-creating app called Musical.ly was introduced. Recently, this app has been reintroduced, as TikTok.

Between 3 to 60 seconds, users have the ability to create video content.

According to Parent Zone, TikTok was the most downloaded app in the world throughout the first quarter of 2018, and it now has over 500 million users.

TikTok used to be just another app that people could download.

Now, TikTok is a multimillion-dollar success. So how did TikTok gain its popularity? How did TikTok become such a prevalent topic of conversation?

The replacement of Musical.ly

According to Business Insider, Bytedance, a Chinese internet company, owns TikTok.

Musical.ly was popular for only a short period of time, but TikTok has been popular since its creation.

The merging of Musical.ly into TikTok resulted in a tremendous amount of popularity and usage.

Celebrity galore

Another way in which TikTok gained its popularity is from the wide range of celebrities and influences who utilize the app.

Examples include Ashley Tisdale, Miley Cyrus, the NBA, Jason Derulo, Amy Schumer and The Jonas Brothers.

People look up to what celebrities are doing, often considering them as role models and following in their footsteps.

It’s personalized just for you

TikTok is a unique content app.

Like other social media apps, users have the ability to gain followers and follow other people.

What differentiates it from other apps is its “For You Page,” better known as FYP.

On the FYP, people view recommended videos in a feed filled with videos the app you tend to watch the most.

For example, if a person tends to watch soccer videos, more soccer videos are likely to come up on their FYP.

It’s educational yet entertaining

People have the chance to express themselves in a new way on TikTok.

As I scroll through the FYP, I find the most opinionated, yet interesting videos.

Although spending time on TikTok can be addictive, I end up learning a lot of new information.

Who wouldn’t want to be TikTok famous?

Using hashtags such as #FYP, #ForYou and just about anything trending allow people to have a better chance of gaining new views and followers.

Many people have suddenly developed a desire to become “TikTok famous.”

Currently, the most followed user on TikTok is Loren Gray, who has 39.3 million followers. Charli Damelio is also rising to fame, with 27.9 million followers at only 15 years old.

Regardless of follower counts, TikTok has become a hit, and it is only continuing to rise in popularity.
