Entertainment10: Shonda Rhimes, Beyoncé & Ryan Gosling

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Back with your Entertainment 10! Last week was full of celebrity drama, fashion debuts, Photoshopping and lawsuits. What’s a week in entertainment without fan outrage. Here’s this week’s pop culture update:

1. There was a cry heard around the world, but it wasn’t from Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling’s new baby girl.  It was the cries of grown women learning that Gosling is officially off the market. The couple of three years successfully hid the pregnancy news until Mendes’ final months and welcomed their daughter on Sept. 12. This is the first child for both the beautiful Gosling and Mendes, and we can’t wait to see the gorgeous human they created.

2. Robin Thicke admits to drug use. During a deposition for his lawsuit regarding the authenticity of his hit with “Blurred Lines,” Thicke admitted to being on drugs during the song’s recording sessions. “I was high on Vicodin and alcohol when I showed up at the studio,” he said under oath. “I was high and drunk every time I did an interview last year. Every day, I woke up, I would take a Vicodin to start the day, and then I would fill up a water bottle with vodka and drink it before and during my interviews,” he additionally stated. With the release of this shocking revelation, Thicke’s attorney, Howard King, also released a statement commenting on Thicke’s admittance of drug and alcohol abuse.  “Robin’s moment of personal vulnerability is being exploited in the hope of diverting attention from the obvious weakness of their legal claim.” Thicke also testified that he has quit taking painkillers but still drinks alcohol.

3. Beyoncé is in the spotlight for “faking it” (again). The “Partition” singer has been charged with lip-syncing at her Paris show for her On the Run tour. Video surfaced of the star greeting fans, but a vocal track continues playing as she stops mouthing the lyrics. Although the star immediately bounced back, the flub went viral. But that’s not all. The 33-year-old songstress is also accused of Photoshopping her inner thighs in a newly Instagramed photo of her walking down a staircase in a bikini. This is not the first time that Queen Bey has been accused of altering her pictures. Earlier this summer, Beyoncé came under fire for allegedly widening her “thigh gap” in a photo she posted of her and her husband, Jay Z.

4. Mama June and Sugar Bear split. The Here Comes Honey Boo Boo stars never married, but they did exchange vows in a commitment ceremony on an episode of the hit show in May. “Sugar Bear and I have decided to take some time apart to figure out some things in our relationship,” Mama June said in a statement. “We are taking things day by day, but regardless of what happens, the girls will always be our number one priority. We want to thank y’all for your support.” The couple has been together since May 2004 and has one child, Honey Boo Boo, together.

5. August Alsina wakes up from three-day coma. After collapsing on stage during a performance at the Irving Plaza in New York City, the R&B singer posted an Instagram photo of himself lying in a hospital bed. In the photo, Alsina is pictured wearing an oxygen mask and a neck brace with a friend next to him. “This is a bit graphic but i wanted to share this w/ every follower of mine. iWoke up out of a 3 day coma… &This guy @banggang_moneyteam right here never once left my side,” he wrote. “What I’m tryna say is cherish the ones in life who cherish you & take good care of yourself. Your life can be gone in a split second. I’m recovering well and thankyou for all of your prayers & concerns. -Yung.” We’re happy to hear Alsina is on the road to recovery.

6. Iggy Azalea files a lawsuit against ex-boyfriend. The “Fancy” star is fighting back against Maurice Williams, the same former boyfriend who claims to have a sex tape of the star. She is suing Williams for copyright infringement and unlawfully promoting her early music recordings without consent.  Williams announced he plans to release an EP of the rapper’s early music on next week.  The Australian star says Williams stole the music off her computer in 2008. Azalea is suing for compensatory damages plus interest at the legal rate and statutory damages for each infringement.

7. Melissa Rivers pays tribute to her mother, Joan Rivers, in first televised appearance since her death. The late comedian’s co-stars and friends paid tribute to her in a 90-minute Fashion Police special Friday. Rivers’ daughter, Melissa Rivers began the special by saying, “The last four years this set has been home to the funniest, most outrageous voice in comedy. This chair was the place a woman spoke the truth about celebrities and fashion in a way that was hilarious and absolutely 100 percent original. Tonight we want to say goodbye the only way my mom would want us to, by remembering the incredible jokes, the unbelievable guests, and all the moments on set and behind-the-scenes that made Fashion Police must-see television around the globe.” Rivers also revealed that President Obama sent his condolences in a hand-written note that praised Joan Rivers for not only making us laugh but also making us think. Melissa Rivers, who is also a producer on the show, revealed that Fashion Police would continue after a brief hiatus.

8. Kendall Jenner holds hands with a mystery man during Milan Fashion Week. Following Jenner’s Milan Fashion Week debut, the reality star turned high-fashion model was seen on the streets of Milan holding hands with a mystery guy. Jenner was pictured with the unidentified man after walking the catwalk in the Ports 1961 show. The 18 year old has previously been linked to One Direction stud, Harry Styles, and NBA star, Chandler Parsons.

9. Kim Kardashian West defends her man. After some backlash following Kanye West’s recent  “wheelchair incident,” Kardashian West took to Instagram to set the record straight. She wrote, “What an amazing Australian tour! Its frustrating that something so awesome could be clouded by lies in the media. Kanye never asked anyone in a wheelchair to stand up & the audience videos show that. He asked for everyone to stand up & dance UNLESS they were in a wheelchair. #JUSTWANTEDEVERYONETOHAVEAFUNNIGHT #TheMediaTwistsThings.”

10. The New York Times’ article sparks outrage after calling Viola Davis “Less Classically Beautiful” and Shonda Rhimes a “Mad Black Woman.” Following an NYT article previewing Shonda Rhimes’ new show How to Get Away with Murder, the Internet went into a flurry about comments made by the critic. The article included some controversial phrases describing Rhimes’ new show. “Ignoring the narrow beauty standards some African-American women are held to, Ms. Rhimes chose a performer who is older, darker-skinned and less classically beautiful than Ms. Washington, or for that matter Halle Berry,” the article stated. The article additionally attacked Rhimes saying,  “When Shonda Rhimes writes her autobiography, it should be called “How to Get Away With Being an Angry Black Woman.” Shonda Rhimes took to Twitter to fire back at the critic, “Wait. I’m ‘angry’ and a romance writer?!” Rhimes exclaimed. “I’m going to need to put down the internet and go dance this one out because ish is getting real.”

That’s all for your Entertainment 10. We’ll be dancing it out until next week. Catch you then with some more celebrity news. Have a great week, collegiettes™!
