Entertainment Ten: Mickey Rooney, James Franco and Demi Lovato

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Welcome back, collegiettes™! This week, I have a variety of news: the passing of a well-respected actor, an engagement, and a coming-out!

1. Mickey Rooney passed away at the age of 93. The famous actor was in his first movie in 1926, and his career spanned almost all of movie history. Rooney is survived by his eighth wife of 36 years, eight children, 19 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.

2. James Franco tried to pick up a girl on Instagram. I really hope he isn’t creepy in real life, but this seems to suggest otherwise. A 17-year-old Scottish tourist was visiting New York City for her 18th birthday when she met Franco after his Broadway play. According to various sources, they started chatting on Instagram and via text message, and he continuously suggested that they meet up and go to a hotel.

3. Tom Daley is openly gay. The 19-year-old British Olympic diver had previously identified as bisexual, according to a YouTube video he posted in December 2013. The bronze medal winner is now dating Dustin Lance Black, 39, a screenwriter who won an Oscar for the movie Milk.

4. The Kardashians have a new spin-off show. Kourtney & Khloe Take the Hamptons will premiere this fall. The pair is opening up a boutique in the Hamptons, and of course, the ever-present Scott Disick will be there.

5. Bates Motel has been renewed for a third season. Fans of the A&E thriller will be “thrilled” (sorry, I couldn’t help it) to know that the young Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) and his mother (Vera Farmiga) will be back in 2015.

6. Chanel Iman and A$AP Rocky are engaged. The model, 23, and rapper, 25, have been dating for about a year and are keeping the engagement quiet. The low-key couple has made an effort to stay out of the press throughout their relationship. Congrats!

7. The fourth season of Game of Thrones premiered! The 6.6 million viewers make it HBO’s most-watched show since the 2007 finale of The Sopranos. The executive producers of the incredibly popular show (House Lannister for me!) have stated they don’t think the show will run past seven or eight seasons.

8. Provocative pictures of Demi Lovato have leaked online — she just can’t seem to stop making headlines. The pictures show the singer with Wilmer Valderrama in bed and posing nude. Lovato hasn’t commented on the pictures specifically, but she did tweet recently that she is a fighter.

9. Kesha performed for the first time since leaving rehab in March. The 27-year-old singer performed at Petty Fest, a festival that pays tribute to Tom Petty. She performed “Free Fallin’” during her surprise appearance.

10. Amanda Bynes tweeted photos from Mexico. The actress seems to be doing much better after her rehab stay in 2013. She tweeted photos of herself on vacation with her parents and thanked fans for their birthday wishes. Bynes is currently a merchandise product development student at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.

Have a good week!
