Celebrities You Should (and Shouldn’t) Follow on Instagram

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Social media has given celebrities and fans alike the ability to connect with one another better than ever before. Instagram in particular allows the rich and famous to give us average folk an inside look at their everyday musings, behind-the-scenes adventures, and upcoming projects. Whether they post pictures of random objects and places or photos of themselves with friends, it’s nice to see these celebrities living normal lives out of the spotlight.

Here are a few celebrities you should follow on Instagram:

 1. Cast of Pretty Little Liars (@shaym, @itsashbenzo, @lucyhale89, @sleepinthegardn @actuallyharding, @keeoone, @longhaired_child)

The cast of ABC Family’s hit show Pretty Little Liars is almost always updating their Instagram accounts with sneak peeks of the series and pictures of them on set as well as photos of their individual adventures.

Troian Bellisario (@sleepinthegardn) recently spent time in South Asia with boyfriend Patrick Adams (@halfadams) of USA’s Suits, and they both shared beautiful photos of their destination. When Ashley Benson (@itsashbenzo) was traveling around the world promoting Spring Breakers, she shared photos of herself with cast members Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens all along the way.

Interesting Fact: Benson and Lucy Hale (Aria) follow all of the cast members of PLL with the exception of each other. Shay Mitchell (Emily) only follows Ian Harding (Ezra) and Tyler Blackburn (Caleb).

2. Carlos Pena and Alexa Vega (@therealcarlospena, @vegaalexa)
Instagram’s cutest couple award goes to Big Time Rush’s Carlos Pena and Alexa Vega, best known for her role as Carmen in Spy Kids. Instagram-users have tagged the couple “Carlexa,” and the pair is known for posting adorable pictures together on their respective accounts.

Whether their simply smiling for the camera or acting silly, this couple is definitely here to stay. Don’t believe us? Here are the captions they wrote to one another on their Valentine’s Day posts (the pictures they posted with their messages are above):

“@therealcarlospena: Happy Valentine’s Day to this Dork (@alexavega) that makes me so happy I could Burst ;). Thank you for being such a wonderful “addition” to my life!”

“@vegaalexa: YOU are my rock. The most wonderful “addition”. I miss you my angel!!! Dorkiness and all! Happy Valentines day baby!”

3. Emma Roberts (@emmaroberts6)
Julia Roberts’ beautiful niece Emma Roberts, formerly of Nickelodeon’s Unfabulous, is constantly updating her Instagram account with pictures you’d typically expect from any other 22-year-old. From weekly “Throwback Thursday” posts to her favorite books, shoes, and food, Emma openly shares her intelligence along with her everyday experiences with 671K followers.

Our guess is The Great Gatsby is one of Emma’s favorite stories and possibly even similar to her privileged life. After all, her profile itself quotes the book: “‘I like large parties. They’re so intimate. At small parties there isn’t any privacy.’”

4. Channing Tatum (@channingtatumunwrapped)
Who doesn’t want a little eye candy on their Instagram-feed every day? Channing Tatum’s official Instagram is full of photos promoting his upcoming projects, red carpet appearances, and modeling gigs. Yes, this does in fact means good portions of them contain his bare chest. However, the now-expectant father features cute photos of him and wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum (@jennaldewan), with whom he co-starred in Step Up, as well. People’s Sexiest Man Alive of 2012 has quite the sense of humor, too. He’s known for his occasional e-card post; they usually pertain to Magic Mike, and let’s be honest, no one here opposes that.

—————————–

As much as we love to pay attention to the latest happenings in our favorite celebrities lives, sometimes the content they post on Instagram can be a little too much to handle. Here are three Instagram accounts you should probably stop following but can’t seem to turn away from:

1. Justin Bieber (@justinbieber)
Biebs just can’t seem to catch a break. Lately, the world famous singer has been finding himself in the hot seat for his actions, and many believe he is headed on a downward spiral like most other teen stars often do. Maybe the enormous amount of “selfies” (raised eyebrows and all) on his Instagram account is a sign of a growing ego? Don’t forget about his captions, which he tends to take down and re-edit!

In the photo featuring Bieber in a gas mask, his caption reads “Mi eht tseb.” Finding Nemo’s Dory would probably say, “That’s funny, it’s spelt just like ‘I’m the best.’” A couple months ago, Bieber addressed the press with a black photo and a long caption about how hard he has worked. He ended it with a jab at Lindsay Lohan and her tax returns. He later took down the post and reposted it without the insult.

Most recently, JB created quite a ruckus after posting, deleting, and re-posting a picture of himself (without a shirt, I must add) with on-again, off-again beau Selena Gomez. His caption read: “’You’ve been makin music for too long babe come cuddle’ –her.” Since then, reconciliation rumors have been swirling the tabloids, and many can’t help but wonder if he’s seeking attention regardless of what kind it is.

2. Rihanna (@badgalriri)
Bad Gal is right! Although Rihanna’s Instagram hasn’t been too bad as of late, the talented singer’s photos give new meaning to the word “unfiltered.” From her technically illegal adventures with Chris Brown and “Mary Jane” to her near-nude appearances to her risqué poses and language, Rihanna sports no shame and has no problem in saying so. But let’s give RiRi some credit; she posts some inspirational messages every once in a while, too.

3. Kim Kardashian (@kimkardashian)
She has been better about it recently, but most of Kim K’s Instagram photos typically scream, “Give me attention,” or “Look, I’m with Kanye.” Unlike sisters Kourtney (@kourtneykardash) and Khloe (@khloekardashian), who constantly feature their favorite things and crazy adventures, Kim’s photos seem very impersonal. A lot of her feed features professional photographs that appear in magazines, products she is trying to sell, or links to other social media accounts. It seems as though the account is for promotional purposes only. However, we can’t ignore the meaningful photographs Kim posts of her father when she and her siblings were young and the recent family photos of the Kardashian/Jenner vacation to Greece.
