Beginners Guide to Falsies & Eyelash Extensions

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Even though fake eyelashes and eyelash extensions seem like a great thing to add to your makeup routine, it can be very hard to apply them as a beginner. Fake eyelashes can easily be applied at home but applying them by yourself can be difficult if you just started to use them. Also, eyelash extensions can be hard because even though you usually have to go to a salon to get them applied, finding the ones that work best for you can be difficult. If you want to add this to your makeup routine don’t worry because I have found several tips to guide you when applying falsies or eyelash extensions.

Falsies

Find eyelashes to match

One of the most important things when first starting to apply fake eyelashes is to make sure that the lashes look good with your facial features and that they match the look you are going for. There are several different kinds of lashes, but some styles will look better on your face than others. The shape of your eyes and size of your facial features will help you to determine which lashes are the best fit for you. For example, if your eyes are smaller, try to go for eyelashes that are shorter in length, so it does not look like too much on your eyes. Also, the lashes that work for you need to be determined by the kind of look you are going for because eyelash brands like Ardell make several different types of falsies, so if you want a more dramatic or glam look, try the thicker eyelashes, like the faux mink eyelashes. If you are looking for a more natural look, try the wispies by Ardell.

Cut and bend the eyelashes

Another important tip for applying falsies is to make sure that you cut the eyelashes to fit your eyes. You can do this by laying each of the eyelashes on your eye to measure where your natural lashes match up with the fake eyelashes. Then, just cut the excess lashes off of the falsies. Also, you need to make sure that you bend the eyelashes to make them loose. This will prevent the ends of eyelashes from lifting off your eyes after applying so your falsies look good all day long and stay on correctly.

Apply mascara first

By applying mascara first, your natural eyelashes won’t stick out and will instead blend in with the falsies. Applying mascara after the falsies may not work as well to blend the two together because applying too much to cover your natural lashes could make it clumpy.

Use the proper glue and applicator

Another key part to applying lashes correctly is to make sure you use the proper glue. The glue can easily be the most important part of applying falsies because without using good glue, your lashes could come off during the day and be very noticeable. One popular brand of eyelash glue that works well for applying fake lashes is the glue by Duo. Another part of buying the correct glue it to determine whether you want to use dark glue or clear glue. Dark glue can be difficult if you are a beginner because if you mess up, the glue could end up ruining your makeup. The clear glue is much easier as a beginner because if you make a mistake, you won’t mess up the rest of your look.

Extensions

Know what works for you

Just like with fake eyelashes, finding the lashes that work for your face is important when getting eyelash extensions applied. If the lashes are too big, it may not look as good with your facial features if your features are smaller, which is why it’s important to match the eyelashes to your face before you get extensions.

Be gentle

Eyelash extensions can be experience, so it is important to try to make them last as long as they can. You can do this by being very gentle with your eyelashes to ensure they stay intact. For example, when taking your eye makeup off, be careful near the lashes.

If you’re a beginner or just want to improve your skills, you should definitely try use these tips when applying falsies or eyelash extensions!
