Art Notes: The Art of Tiffany’s

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

In my last post, I mentioned one of the overlooked beauties of art is it’s everywhere. Did you realize you probably wear art every day? That’s right, ladies. The rings on your fingers, the bracelets on your wrists, and the studs in your ears are all art. They’re more than just accessories; the jewelry you all admire so much took careful design and crafting to create the pretty looks you love.

One of my favorite places to get jewelry from, as I’m sure most girls can testify to as well, is Tiffany & Co. Over time, this renowned jewelry company has featured designers who were each artists in their own right. Tiffany’s first design director, Louis Comfort Tiffany, was a leader of the Art Nouveau movement, who was known for his stained glass works, of which elements he incorporated into his bright jewelry designs. Also, leading architect Frank Gehry, notably known for the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, created a jewelry line that embodied his imaginative architectural style.

Tiffany’s currently features designs by Paloma Picasso, Elsa Peretti, and Jean Schlumberger. Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, so why not drop a hint to your boy that you’d like some art from one of these collections? Here are my top picks for the more affordable love-esque pieces:

1. Paloma Picasso Loving Heart band ring

This is the art your finger needs. This ring features sterling silver hearts in a running link, the perfect symbol of love. Meticulously crafted and true to Picasso’s style, it has a whimsical feel, making it a true signature piece.

2. Elsa Peretti Open Heart drop earrings

Coming in at $295, these earrings are the splurge on the list, but how could you not fall in love with this timeless set? In typical Peretti fashion, they have a simple and understated modern look inspired by nature. Made of sterling silver, these earrings are sure to brighten up your face.

3. Eiffel Tower charm and chain

Who doesn’t love Paris? Wear “the city of love” whenever you like with this eye-catching sterling silver necklace. This unique piece will undoubtedly make a statement about your personal style.

4. Return to Tiffany bead bracelet

You can’t go wrong with Tiffany’s blue. Add some color to your wrist with this sterling silver bracelet inspired by a 1969 design. I actually have this bracelet, and I love the way the beads catch the light. It has become my staple art piece to any outfit, and it’s sure to be yours as well.

Let’s be real, though; the collections at Tiffany’s don’t stop there. Browse the website, and find the art piece that best suits you. Plus, you can check out the “World of Tiffany” tab on the page and explore the Tiffany Story and designers. Tiffany’s behind the scenes is just as pretty as the jewelry they make.
