8 Ways to Keep Spring Break Alive Until Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

We’ve been back in class for a week, and I’m sure you’re feeling spring break withdrawals. If you spent your break in a tropical destination, don’t you miss the feeling of the sea breeze on your face, the sun on your skin, and the cool drink in your hand? I know I do! In fact, I’ve missed spring break so much that I’ve come up with a few ways to keep the vibes around so they can carry me through to summer. Maybe these will help with your chronic I-miss-spring-break-itis, too!

1. Next time you have to study, throw on a bathing suit and bring your books outside.
Being outside is good for you! Sunlight is a natural source of vitamin D, which is really important for your health. Vitamin D prevents cancer, hormonal problems, obesity, and inflammation. It also helps support your immune system. You will become less likely to get sick, and you can also help increase the quality of your sleep. Studying outside will help your body feel good, and you’ll maintain your tan! Not to mention if you close your eyes and imagine your tropical spring break destination, you just might be able to convince yourself you’re actually there.

2. When you exercise, try adding some beachy music to your workout playlist.
By listening to both upbeat songs that motivate you to run faster and mellow beach-time music, you’ll relax your mind and improve your fitness at the same time. When you hear a Jack Johnson or Jimmy Buffet song, you’ll be able to reminisce about your amazing spring break while continuing to maintain your beach bod for summer.

3. Make a picture from your spring break the background on your computer.
Trust me, it helps keep the memories alive and get you pumped for summertime. The picture above is from my spring break cruise in the Bahamas. Whenever you’re stressed with tests and assignments, take a peek at your computer background, close your eyes for 20 seconds, and imagine your spring break destination spot. I promise you’ll automatically feel more relaxed.

4. Next time you’re out at a bar or restaurant and ordering a drink, order something tropical to remind you of your break
Having a Mai Tai or Piña Colada will provide you with that cool refreshment you’ve been missing. In a town full of vodka tonics and rum and diets, a fruity drink with an umbrella will bring you back to that spring break state of mind.

5. Look beachy, feel beachy.
By wearing bright colors or floral prints, you’ll automatically feel in touch with your tropical spring break side again. Keep your nails painted a bright and sunny color, and you’ll be brought back to your favorite beach… Well, at least in your mind.

6. Treat yourself to a spring break-sized meal.
You put in a lot of hardwork to give yourself the ultimate spring break bod, and you know you rewarded yourself with all the food you’ve been missing out on. I went on a cruise over break, and with unlimited options all for free, we certainly pigged out! My friend, and HC blogger, Hillary Hoffower decided to treat herself to three desserts. And I don’t blame her! To bring back those spring break memories, allow yourself to have one guilt-free meal with as much food as you want.

7. Recreate your spring break by taking a weekend trip with your friends to the beach or a lake.
Sure, it may not be exactly like the Bahamas or Key West, but taking a drive to Jacksonville Beach, Cedar Key, or even heading to Lake Wauburg for some fun on the water could bring you some spring break peace of mind. Take a break from your everyday schedule of school work and classes, and remind yourself just how relaxing your break was. Trust me, it’s the closest thing you have to actually being back on break.

8. Start planning your next spring break or summer plans.
Keeping your mind busy by making plans for the future will give you something to be excited about, and looking up new destinations will motivate you to get through the rest of the school year. Maybe you’ll head back to where you spent your week off or try a new hot spot? Either way, the idea of hitting up a new tropical location will keep your spring break vibes going.

Only six more weeks left, collegiettes! You’ll be back on break before you know it!
