Fall is here, which means feeling cozy and cuddling up on the couch with some good music. One of the best parts of the autumn season is the fact that there are so many fall-inspired songs out there. There are acoustic, laid back folk, alternative and even melancholy hits, too. The number of fall songs out there is limitless. If you are looking to create the ultimate fall playlist, here is a list of seven songs that are too good to pass up.

“Re: Stacks” by Bon Iver

Bon Iver writes the best songs for this dreamy autumn season. Their songs are slow, soft and filled with an achingly beautiful message in the lyrics. Their song “Re: Stacks” released back in 2008 but will never lose its relevance in the music world because it is a classic. It’s a song about letting ago and moving on. Have you ever wanted the perfect song to drive around to on a crisp fall afternoon? This one is it.

“Anchor” by Novo Amor

“Anchor” is rooted in a really beautiful story. Ali Lacey (aka Novo Amor) says he wrote this song based on a fictional love story that has a devastating ending. The song is based off a selkie. A Scottish mythology says a selkie is a magical sea creature that is able to change into human form. Novo Amor wrote this song to tell a story of a selkie that falls in love with a man. The selkie, who is a young woman who is finally with the love of her life, starts to long to be in the sea again. She doesn’t want to leave him, but he insists she goes back to the water. He loves her and he wants her to be happy even if that means not getting to live out a life with him. The ending of the song explains that she does indeed return to the ocean. It’s a beautiful tale filled with love, longing and what it means to be human.

“Lionhearted” by Billie Marten

Billie Marten, a 20-year-old singer from the UK, has a way of making music slow down and become a hauntingly beautiful melody. “Lionhearted” is soft and quaint, and it’s a song that is autumnal with its slow and smooth guitar strokes. Her lyrics are relatable and full of heartache, longing and endearing. You won’t want to miss this one.

“Brassy Sun” by S. Carey

The beauty of Sean Carey’s music is never-ending. “Brassy Sun” is a melancholy tune with piano and slow guitar all mixed into one. The lyrics tell a story, and while listening, the audience learns that this song is about feeling lost as so many of us sometimes feel during this time of year. This one is for those rainy autumn days. Also, Sean Carey is actually in Bon Iver! Small world, huh?

“Shallows” by Daughter

Daughter. What a band. The band consists of lead singer Elena Tonra, Igor Häefeli on guitar and Remi Aguilella on drums. They incorporate a moody alternative spin on their songs with painfully relatable and honest lyrics. You can feel their music so deeply. Shallows is a lengthy song, nearly 7 minutes in length, but every second is worth listening to. It’s also a rather intimate song about missing someone when you really shouldn’t be. This band will be your fall favorite — I promise you.

“Birdsong” by George Ogilvie

Now this is for sure a fall tune. The song is folk-inspired and a has a bit of a country feel but is still alternative. Birdsong is about emotional vulnerability, especially during a time like autumn. Autumn brings out of a lot of emotions in us all, so this song is a relatable piece that symbolizes hope. This song reminds listeners to not give up on themselves and is beautiful and inspiring.

“Love Like This” by RY X

This is a dreamy song. In my opinion, this song is one I would walk down the aisle to. Weddings aside, this song is a slow one that gradually builds. RY X is known for his quiet and mesmerizing song writing. He is an Australia-born, but LA based, singer with so much talent. The lyrics tell the story of what it’s like to fall in and out of love. This sublime song has to be in your fall playlist.

So that’s the list. These seven songs will be on repeat for your fall-inspired playlist. Autumn is a beautiful time of year, so make sure you match that with beautiful music.
