I’m not even going to lie and say It wasn’t scary, because it most definitely was. However, it was also one of the better horror movies that I have seen recently. A lot of scary movies do cheap scares and dumb pop-outs, but It was well-crafted and artistically appealing. It’s Halloween; get in the holiday spirit by watching this gem of a film! Here are several reasons to check this movie out.
1. 80s Nostalgia
It is set during the summer of 1989 and has some great throwbacks to the ‘80s. How could you not want to watch a movie with a classic kids-riding-bikes scene?
2. The Colors
Look at how beautifully that yellow rain jacket pops on screen! The colors in the costume and set are used very effectively throughout the film.
3. The Scenery
Everyone likes Maine! There’s lobster, blueberries, loons and moose. Every Stephen King book is set in Maine, and summers there are beautiful. Derry, Maine, is a beautiful fictional town where the characters live – except for the murder part.
4. The Memes
How can you possible tag people in a meme if you have no reference to the sewer scene?
5. The Humor
Even though this is a horror movie, there was still humor. How could you not crack up at this gif? Several of the kids in the film have funny one-liners. The comedy makes the movie bearable through the scariness.
6. The Child Actors
The group of kids call themselves the Losers Club but they are not loser actors. Those kids are going places with their career, especially Finn Wolfhard, who plays Richie in It and Mike in Stranger Things.
7. Bill Skarsgard
If you don’t recognize the last name, you should. The Skargards are a very attractive Swedish family of actors. The most famous Skarsgard is Bill’s older brother Alexander from True Blood and The Legend of Tarzan. Bill Skarsgard plays Pennywise; thanks to impeccable makeup artists, an attractive Skarsgard is turned into a terrifying clown.
I’m a fan of scary movies, but I’m also a fan of good movies and It classifies as both. I would suggest seeing It over a dumb scary movie like Annabelle. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 85 percent rating, so if you are scared, you can at least say you saw a critically acclaimed film.
