If there is any trend that I love to hop on the bandwagon for, it’s blazers. Blazers have become a staple in any closet and not just as work-wear. Blazers are the ultimate finishing touch to any look from casual to formal. I personally tend to stick to neutrals, but when it comes to blazers, I will definitely pick one up that is sporting an interesting print or eye-catching hue.
There is something so polished and stylish about a good blazer. Plus, blazers are so much fun. Gone are the days when blazers were only work-appropriate attire and were bland to the eye. Now, blazers come in several silhouettes, designs and fabrics. As I’ve begun a transition from fast fashion to more environmentally-friendly shopping habits, pouring over the men’s blazer section at thrift stores has become one of my favorite pastimes. Whenever I go to Goodwill, I can’t stop myself from checking out the blazers – it’s to the point where if I didn’t check out the men’s blazers, then I didn’t go to Goodwill. Because of my obsession with the oversized blazer trend, I have compiled several ways you can throw on this trend and take your outfit to the next level (especially now that Florida has decided to *somewhat* cooperate with fall).
The casual blazer
The great thing about blazers is their versatility. Not every trend can easily fall into all categories of clothing from casual to formal. Blazers really can do it all. Blazers are a great addition to your everyday outfits. They provide a pop of sophistication and are the perfect jacket for the in-between weather of not steaming but cool enough to add a little something. Pairing blazers with casual outfits might be my favorite form of the trend. A combination of your trusty pair of jeans, a t-shirt and a blazer is the epitome of comfort and style. Whether you’re running to your next class or grabbing a lunch with a friend, this outfit will leave you feeling powerful and chic.
The blazer dress
Who would’ve thought this work-wear jacket could be transformed into a sleek dress? This version of the oversized blazer trend is stunning. There are tons of brands that have created their own versions of the blazer dress, so there are plenty of options to find the perfect fit and style for you. If you find an extremely oversized blazer, you could even just wear it as a dress instead of purchasing a blazer dress. A blazer dress is a perfect choice for formal functions as well as more casual events. Depending on the occasion, you can pair this outfit with sneakers, boots or heels. The possibilities are endless.
The blazer set
One of the easiest ways to throw on an outfit without any thought is to grab a cute set. You can never go wrong with a coordinating blazer and bottom piece. I find these outfits to look effortlessly put together yet still be comfortable. One of the great things about outfit sets is that they come in several variations. Maybe you’re more into pairing your blazer with a matching skirt. Or maybe you prefer a well-made matching pant. There are even sets now that come with a coordinating set of shorts. Whichever type of set you prefer, you will be ready to take on anything without thinking too hard about what outfit to assemble. Plus, you can use the bottom or top set separately and incorporate them into endless outfits.
The statement blazer
Donning on a statement blazer can be the show-stopping piece that you craved for your outfit. A statement blazer is loud and bold, but it does not overwhelm the outfit, which is great because it can be difficult to find the balance between bland and too much. For me, I struggle to find patterns and bold colors that I feel comfortable enough to mix in with my wardrobe. But I have seen some amazing pairings that add life and zest to an outfit just by adding a blazer that sports an interesting color or bright pattern. It also doesn’t hurt that choosing a statement blazer is a ton of fun when deciding what patterns to mesh and what colors complement each other.
The pajama blazer
Just as I said before, blazers come in several different fabrics and silhouettes, and the pajama blazer is definitely one of the cooler types of blazers. Pajama blazers usually come in silky fabrics and slouchy silhouettes. Although the name of this type of blazer is coined from silk pajama sets, this blazer is far from being considered just luxurious lounge wear. A pajama blazer steals the show because of its fabric choice and the way it adds glamour to any outfit. What’s better than getting to top off any outfit with the comfort of something akin a pajama top while adding sophistication?

You’ll probably find that most if not all retailers provide variations on the blazer trend. It is not difficult to find a blazer style that you will love. Although you may have to do a little more digging, I suggest checking out your local thrift stores to find some hidden blazer gems. Forever 21 offers an extensive range of blazer styles from professional blazers to blazer dresses and everything in between. Although it is out of my price range, & Other Stories has a gorgeous selection of blazers. I love to pour over their simplistic photography and grab inspiration from their products.
