Whether you’re spending extended time inside back home with your parents or at your housing in Gainesville, things are sure to accumulate. Quarantine is a great time to clean and organize. I saw this as an opportunity to rearrange and clean my space. Here are some tips if you’re looking to refresh your home.

Reorganize your space

By staying at home for an extended period of time, it’s really easy to get tired of the way things are set up, especially in a room you spend a lot of time in. While purchasing new furniture and accessories may seem like the only solution, a much easier way is to reorganize what you have. You can find a new look by rearranging your furniture. In my bedroom, knick-knacks and old photo frames with childhood photos littered my dresser, desk and walls. While these held good memories, I felt that it was time for a change. I cleared off every surface and wall for a minimal number of items. Now my room feels new and larger.

Clean out the pantry

If you can’t name everything in your pantry off the top of your head or it’s overflowing, chances are you may need to clean it out. Now is the perfect time to get rid of all that expired food in the back of your pantry or find that favorite snack you forgot about. Either way, this is a great way to make room for the food you’ll stock up on during the quarantine. I’ve wanted to clean out the pantry for a while and never had time to do it. One day, I finally set out on the daunting task of clearing it out. I found expired food and other kitchen gear that we no longer use. I was able to clear off so much space, and now it’s very satisfying looking back at my cleaned pantry.

Wipe down all surfaces

Whether it’s touched all the time or never touched, it’s sure to accumulate gunk. Now more than ever, it is important to wipe all doorknobs, handles and any other surface frequently touched by people. On the flipside, wipe down untouched surfaces that have accumulated dust. You’ll know that all germs and dust are taken care of. I had a peace of mind knowing that all doorknobs as well as untouched furniture sections were cleaned.

Clear out your closet

Another task that’s normally overlooked is clearing out your closet. Take a good look at everything and set aside clothes to donate or resell. Sometimes there’s a few items that you fool yourself into thinking you’ll wear but never do. Afterward, you’ll have a closet with only things you want to wear. After I graduated high school, I never really got rid of anything from my closet. But now that I’m about to graduate from college, I’ve found clothes in my closet I’ve had since middle school and haven’t worn for years.

Add a personal touch

The final thing that can go a long way is something that makes your space feel like ‘you.’ Now you are spending more time at home than ever before. This is the perfect time to give your space the touch you’ve always wanted. Whether that is shopping online for artwork from local artists or lighting your favorite candle, it’s all up to you! Now you’ll have a space that’s refreshed and ready for you to live your best life, indoors.
