It’s that time of year everyone and I couldn’t be more excited.

Every year around November, the Christmas music begins. Whether you are out shopping, or in the car listening to the radio, you are bound to hear holiday tunes radiating through the speakers. Some people love them.  Some people think they’re overplayed, but Christmas songs are a key part of the most wonderful time of year.

However, it’s no doubt that we hear the same songs. Every. Single. Year. These tunes are loved for a reason, as they hold timeless value and make us rejoice in all the merry festivities that December brings. As much as I love hearing these songs, I wanted to do some research to see what other holiday songs that were out there weren’t getting enough listens. I came across old, new and everything in between.

I’m going to share some songs that you could give a listen to this holiday season. You could even share these with friends and family to introduce them to something new. There are many Christmas songs that are underrated and deserve the same hype as the rest of the songs we listen to year after year. Here’s a few that I have found myself being very excited to listen to, come December!

“Everyday is Christmas” by Sia

In 2018, Sia released a Christmas-inspired album titled, Everyday Is Christmas with 13 festive songs. Unlike other artists who cover timeless classics (which are still great), Sia has curated lovely holiday tunes that we have yet to hear. Titles range from “Candy Cane Lane,” “My Old Santa Claus” and “Underneath the Christmas Lights.” Every song makes my heart flutter! If you are down for holiday jams, but don’t necessarily want to hear the traditional songs again, shuffle this album and you’ll be sure to find some songs you’ll listen to on repeat. My favorite song off of the album is titled “Snowman.” There’s something about the mix of piano and her uniquely stunning voice that I can’t get enough of. I love the cozy melodies and the lyrics of love with a winter twist. I even find myself listening to this song year-round!

“It Doesn’t Have to be That Way” by Jim Croce

If you’re a fan of older music, this song is right up your alley. This 1973 folk song makes me want to curl up next to fire with hot cocoa, a blanket, a book and dream the night away. The acoustic guitar makes this song so cozy and his soothing voice creates a calming and peaceful vibe. The lyrics blend together love and the holidays so beautifully. This isn’t the song you’ll listen to when you want an upbeat bop to dance to. This is definitely for the cozy, cuddling, homey and quiet Christmas vibes.

“Santa Claus Is Back In Town” by Elvis Presley

If you need more of an upbeat Christmas song, check out “Santa Claus Is Back In Town” by Elvis Presley. We all know and love his song “Blue Christmas”, but he has so many other iconic festive tunes. Like any Elvis song, there is a lot of soul and spunk scattered throughout this song. The lyrics are simple and fun. “Got no sleigh with reindeer, no sack on my back. You’re gonna see me comin’ in a big black Cadillac,” showcases Elvis’s classic attitude. This tune has definitely made its way to my holiday playlist! The only bad thing about this song is that it should have been longer.

“Santa Stole My Lady” by Fitz and The Tantrums

Turning a decade old this year, this holiday medley is a unique one. Although it’s not the holiday spirit that most of us are used to, Christmas is still woven into the lyrics of this love song. The lyrics aren’t the happiest and most cheerful, but the music shines through and picks up the pace and vibe of the song. Whenever this song plays, I’m either tapping my foot lightly or belting the words- there’s no in between. The catchy beat mixed with the nostalgic touches truly make this song.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m still going to be playing the Christmas classics while wrapping and baking this year. However, I did want to shine light on other festive songs that are great additions to your holiday playlist. There are many Christmas songs out there and covers by plenty of different artists. If you’re tired of the same old same old, hop on your favorite music app and find some new Christmas jams!

These songs are truly a pleasure to listen to, from the sound of the production to the lyrics. They definitely get me in the Christmas spirit!
