2016-2017 Winter Fashion Accessories

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Although the majority of University of Florida students do live in Florida, traveling is always a big trend in the winter months. Whether you are heading out to Colorado to a ski resort or visiting family members up North, you’ll want to be warm and still look cute, not like a bundled-up marshmallow. I, for one, will be moving up to New York City the first week of January, and I am in the process of turning my summery Florida wardrobe into one that can withstand the freezing nights out, working days and brunch outings with my friends. I’ve found the latest and cutest winter accessory trends that will turn your winter wardrobe into one that will make you excited to get out of bed in the mornings.

Hats

If you are heading somewhere extremely cold, or anywhere with snow, you’ll want to add a hat to your outfit. Whether you’re looking for something sporty or classy, there’s a warm hat that’ll fit your personal preference. You can find athletic beanies in stores such as Nike or Adidas. If you’re looking for a hat to go with a dressier outfit, then you can find designer beanies in stores such as Michael Kors, Nordstrom and Bloomingdales. Whether printed, ribbed, or solid, there’s a hat out there for you. Bring out your curling wand to glam up the ends of your hair and give yourself that extra flair.

Earmuffs

If you’re a fan of the show Scream Queens, like I am, you’ll notice that Chanel #3 is ALWAYS wearing earmuffs. And they aren’t plain ones either. She always seems to have the most fashionable earmuffs in a variety of colors and styles. Sometimes, they are even embellished. I have a pair of UGG Australia earmuffs that are the warmest things I’ve ever worn, and they are embellished with black sequins, which dress up the look a little bit. Other stores such as Banana Republic, ASOS, Macy’s and even Etsy sell earmuffs in all different colors and looks.

Vests

Fur vests are in. As in SO in. During different seasons, there is always a trend that my friends in NYC are always obsessed with. This past summer, whenever we went out, we’d usually be in colorful rompers and Jack Roger sandals. Although I won’t be catching back up with them for another month, I’ve noticed that the new go-to is fur vests. In every Snapchat I receive from them on Friday and Saturday nights, they have the cutest fur vests glamming up whatever outfit they’ve chosen that night. Whether long or cropped, fur vests are adorable and add that extra touch of warmth. They can be found in a variety of colors and even animal prints to liven up a solid colored outfit. Hopes is a Georgia boutique with an online website that has a huge assortment of fur vests, but they can easily be found in department stores as well.

Bags

Stores all over the country have been on the plaid trend this year. From online boutiques to designer labels, plaid can be found nearly everywhere on bags, coinciding well with the Holiday spirit. If you are love monograms, then you should check out online boutique Marley Lilly, which has monogrammed tote bags and even cosmetic bags. Kate Spade also has plaid bags in a variety of shades and colors.

Get ready to cozy up to the fire, collegiettes in your new winter accessories. ‘Tis the season!
