My twentieth birthday is Nov. 30, and I’m having a bit of a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact that I’m no longer going to be a teenager. Even though there’s nothing particularly special about turning 20, it’s still a strange milestone. There’s no calling me a kid anymore. Twenty is the actual beginning of adulthood. Here are some of my thoughts on the big 2-0.
1. I guess I’m going to have to start making appointments on my own.
2. Maybe I should learn how to cook more than three meals.
3. … Am I supposed to have a life plan now?
4. My grandmother had my dad when she was my age.
5. And she was married AT MY AGE.
6. What if I never meet “The One??”
7. Still can’t drink though…
8. I can’t be called a teenager anymore.
9. But I’m still younger than all of my friends.
10. Is it bad that I still sleep with stuffed animals?
11. Or that I’m majorly excited for Finding Dory?
12. Maybe I should learn to do taxes.
13. Or to balance a checkbook.
14. Being an adult is hard.
15. Soon I’m going to need a real job.
16. Everything is happening so fast.
17. But at least I can still have cake.
18. And I have time to figure out what I want.
19. Being an ~official~ adult is actually… kind of exciting.
20. But it’ll be more exciting when I turn 21 next year.
Clearly, I’ve got a lot on my mind when it comes to turning 20, but here’s to hoping it’s a good year, and that I’m ready to turn 21 next year!
