For as long as I live, I will remember March 25, 2015, the fateful, confusing and emotional day Zayn Malik officially announced that he would leave One Direction. Though he formally apologized to his fans, I can’t help but sit here still confused as to how this boy band will ever be the same. Let me walk you through a series of reactions that I’m sure many of you had upon hearing the news.
First you heard the news that Zayn dropped out of the last leg of the One Directions Tour, and you can’t help but think, Hmmm… that’s suspicious.
Then your best friend, sister and that random classmate with 1D stickers on her laptop inform you that Zayn has officially quit One Direction. But you still cannot believe it and think they must be mistaken.
Then you scroll through your Facebook, Twitter and Instagram feeds and see the news everywhere. Suddenly it sinks in, and you can’t do anything but cry.
As you begin to hyperventilate, you can’t help but think, So this is what a panic attack feels like.
As soon as the wave of tears passes, you quickly take to your phone to text, tweet, Snapchat and blog about this tragedy.
All of the sudden, you realize you are no longer sad about this but rather mad at Zayn. How could he do his to Harry, Liam, Louis and Niall? How could he do this to you?!
This is seriously the worst! In your infuriated state of mind, you just want to hit something.
But instead you collapse in your bed and cry some more because you will never get to see all five boys in concert together again.
Finally, as a last resort, you turn to the one thing that makes you happy: food.
You try to go out in public, but even the littlest things remind you of Zayn. Before you know it, strangers are walking up to you asking if you’re okay.
There is only one thing left for us to do ladies, and that’s protest! Let’s take to Turlington Plaza with our cardboard signs and pitchforks and protest!
Maybe such extreme measures aren’t quite necessary, but it’s safe to say Directioners and 1D haters alike were all shocked at Zayn’s recent announcement. It’s hard to imagine One Direction without Zayn’s dreamy hair and voice, but here’s to hoping he becomes the next Justin Timberlake!
