10 Reasons Why I Want to Be More Like My Mom

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

My mom is the greatest role model in my life. She is kind and wonderful. As I transition into adulthood, I have realized that I would be lucky to have the same traits and characteristics as my mom. She is seriously such a cool woman. There are so many reasons why I would want to be like her.

1. She’s the most loyal person I know.

My mom never talks behind someone’s back. She is always there for her friends and family, no matter what. She will always be there for a friend in need. She will never cancel a previous engagement for something else. She never goes back on her word.

2. She always gets stuff done.

Whether the grass needs to be cut, or something needs to be done at work, my mom always does it immediately. She doesn’t procrastinate ever. If something needs to be fixed, it’s taken care of that day. Meanwhile, I forget to tell my sorority house mom that I need a new lightbulb when mine burns out. No matter how stressed she is, she always puts aside time to make sure everything is taken care of.

3. She puts aside her feelings for others.

When I’m annoyed or having a bad day, sometimes I find it easier to ignore everything and everyone, something my mom never does that. She would never ignore a phone call because she doesn’t feel like talking. Without ever being asked, she puts others first.

4. She has the biggest heart.

My mom goes out of her way to help others; she’s kind to everyone she meets. She donates her time and money to people who are struggling in some way. She will always be the first to volunteer to help anyone. She makes me want to be a better person.

5. She doesn’t hold grudges.

My mom understands that life is too short to dislike someone. My mom will never be so mad at someone that it will hurt their relationship. When I do something that might upset her, she understands that forgiveness is necessary to move on. She knows that being able to forgive is a strength, not a weakness.

6. She’s independent.

My mother’s independence impresses me every day. Calling the doctor, or going to the store alone is a struggle for myself. However, my mother doesn’t bat an eye when she has to hang out alone. She knows how to handle herself in any and every situation. She’s comfortable enough with herself to do stuff alone, whenever and wherever she needs to be doing it.

7. She’s reliable.

I can always trust that she will help me with anything. Growing up, she never failed to help me with homework or an assignment. If I needed something picked up for me on her way home from work, she always did it. If she promises something, she remembers it. Sometimes life gets busy and I forget if I’m supposed to do something. She never does that. She is always there for me, and whoever else needs help.

8. Everything she does, she does well.

My mom doesn’t do anything halfway. She puts her all into everything she make a commitment. Whether it is a project around the house, or a class she is taking for her job, she does everything with a high standard.

9. She’s confident.

My mom has an amazing amount of confidence in herself. She seems so comfortable in every situation. She can talk to anyone with ease and grace. She seems invincible sometimes. She has always taught me to be confident in myself.

10. She’s the greatest person ever.

I can’t say enough good things about my mom. She is everything I aspire to be. She’s sweet, funny and kind. She is intelligent, motivated and successful. I can only hope, one day, I will be as amazing as she is.

My mom is my best friend. One day, I hope to be half the woman she is.
