HC UEA Campus Celebrity: Lesley Grahame

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UEA chapter.

Seeing as today is the general election, our Campus Celebrity for this week is UEA graduate and Norwich Green Party Prospective Parliamentary candidate for Norwich South: Lesley Grahame.

The part-time district nurse is proving to be a favourite to take a seat in the House of Commons this year, her main competition in Norwich South being Labour’s Clive Lewis.

Grahame could be described as a political activist during her time at the University of East Anglia where she studied International Development, being deeply involved in the libertarian socialist society in her student years. No stranger to activism, Grahame was later the subject of controversy, having been caught breaking into and trespassing on a protected site and shackling herself to an ammunitions compound to protest against cluster bombs. If there is one thing that Her Campus sincerely respects, it is true passion and the belief that sometimes you have to break the rules for a good cause.

Grahame will find out her fate with the rest of us in the next few days but we wouldn’t be surprised if she came out the victor. She has acquired a great deal of votes, especially from the university students who not only agree with her ideas on tuition fees, but also respect the fact that she is a true UEA girl who has admitted to attending ‘many a gig at the LCR’.

Jen is a French and International Development student in her final year at University of East Anglia and an aspiring magazine editor. She is an active member of campus social life and when she is not writing future online content or updating her fashion and lifestyle blog, you will find her in Topshop or any cafe that serves tea and cake, reading tonnes of the latest fashion magazines.
