This week we caught up with our very own Jen Proudfoot: UEA student, Campus Correspondent of HC UEA and aspiring magazine editor. Currently in her fourth year of studying French and International Development, she is trying to soak up as much university life as she possibly can before she graduates this summer.
After her year abroad in France, Proudfoot decided to start her magazine career early and applied to launch a chapter of Her Campus at UEA proving herself as a magazine editor of the future and a woman to watch. The chapter launched in the new year and is still going strong, bringing something new and exciting to campus life in Norwich.Â
We sat down with Jen to find out a little more:Â

Describe yourself in three words: “Small, strong-minded and caring.”
What usually surprises people about you?
“My sense of humour, people are often taken aback by my cutting sarcasm and I often have to tone it back so it won’t be taken the wrong way!”
Favourite UEA memory:
“There are far too many to choose from but any memory that involves sunbathing by the UEA lake with a Hive smoothie and my favourite people is a guaranteed winner.”
Why did you decide to launch a Her Campus chapter at UEA?
“I have always wanted to get into the magazine industry and starting a student magazine seemed like the best place to start to gain as much experience as possible! In researching campus magazine names online, I stumbled across HerCampus and became an avid reader. UEA has an impressive array of student journalism but there is definitely a space for this publication as there is nothing else like it on campus.”
What has been the biggest challenge?
“It has all been quite challenging really but in the best possible way! The fact that it is a weekly magazine means that we have to turn out content incredibly frequently which is tough but it keeps us on our toes and has given me fantastic experience for the future!”

What are your plans for the future?
“Ideally I’d like to work as a magazine editor for a big publication, but it’s wildly competitive so I have to start now! People often chuckle when I tell them that I aim to be an editor of Elle magazine, so I am dying to prove them wrong!”
