I wish I could say this would be a positive update on the fight against police brutality but unfortunately it is not. The fight against racism and police brutality is nowhere near done or even just resolved. If you by now have not heard of Breanna Taylor, then it is time for you to go educate yourself on the brutal act of police brutality against a black female. The horrible brutality that resulted in the death of this young woman happened on the 13 March 2020 in America. There is a possibility that she may never get justice. Certain laws in states like Kentucky make it a grey area when it comes to “self-defence” like the officers are claiming.

But it only gets worse. In South Africa, a 16-year-old boy named Nathaniel Julius was shot by a police officer simply because he could not respond back to their questions due to the fact that he was disabled. If you search up ‘What happened to Nathaniel Julius?’ the first result is a story saying he had died because he had happened to be in the middle of gang violence. This enrages BIPOC people, especially because police brutality in this country is always covered up with the excuse of gang violence. He was an innocent, unarmed, disabled, 16-year-old boy.

Nothing is being done about the racism and brutality BIPOC people have to face every single day at the hands of the police. People of colour have to continue preaching about #BlackLivesMatter because they are being killed. It HAS been time to stop saying ‘agree to disagree’ on these issues because this is about morality. Racism is going to carry on unless something is done. You cannot stop posting simply because it is not trending any longer.

Nathaniel Julius was shot while eating a biscuit. Breonna Taylor was shot while sleeping.

How many more need to die for doing nothing wrong before you start screaming with us?

How many more videos do we have to see of deaths before you realize it is traumatic?

How many more hashtags do we have to create until you realize the severity of the crisis?
