What I Eat In A Typical Day As A College Student

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSD chapter.

One of my favorite types of videos to watch on youtube are“What I Eat In A Day” videos. Whether it is a high school student or an influencer in their mid-twenties showing what they eat on a typical workday, it is always interesting to get a little glimpse into their daily life and hear about their different “go-to” meals.. Somehow, these videos make the most mundane things such as eating and doing everyday activities seem so fascinating. I decided that instead of watching a “What I Eat In A Day” video on YouTube, I would write an article about what I eat on a typical day in my life as a first-year in college.

After waking up around nine o’clock AM, I get ready and immediately head to my first class of the day at ten o’clock. Usually, I do not feel hungry immediately after waking up. However, I always make sure to take my vitamins at the start of the day. By the time my lecture ends, however, I am usually very hungry. Before getting breakfast, I head to the market to get my caffeine fix for the day. Generally, if I am not feeling too tired then I opt for either a classic chai latte or a matcha latte (with oat milk). If I stayed up much later the night before than I should have, which happens quite often these days, then I will either opt for an iced americano or a Yerba Mate — always the mint flavor. After getting a drink I usually head to the dining hall to get my usual breakfast which includes scrambled eggs, sausage, and roasted vegetables.

After eating I usually head to another class or I will head to the library to study. Usually, at the library, I will try to get through some readings I have to do, work on articles for HerCampus, study for exams, or work on essays. After going to class or studying for a bit I usually start feeling hungry again around three o’clock. At this point, I like to get a snack from the market. These days, one of my go-to snacks has been raspberry fig bars from the brand Nature’s Bakery. I recently discovered these bars and they are super yummy and filling. If the bar is not enough to fill me up then I like to get some more snacks like fruit or chips. Once in a while, I like to treat myself to an acai bowl from Blue Bowl on campus. My personal order is: acai and matcha as bases, hemp granola, almond butter, goji berries, and cacao nibs.

After eating a snack I usually do some more school work or attend another class if I have more classes that day. The snack is usually enough to hold me over until dinner time around six o’clock or seven o’clock. Dinner is usually the meal that varies the most. Depending on what I am in the mood for that day or what my friends are craving, I decide what to eat. One of the meals I eat the most often for dinner is poke bowls. Some of my other things to get for dinner on campus are black bean burgers, Hawaiian chicken and rice, or chicken tenders with fries.

That concludes everything I eat in a day on a typical weekday as a college student. However, I will add that if I am staying up late at night there is a high likelihood that I will have some snacks!
