It’s officially October! The leaves are falling and the air is crisp, meaning it’s finally time to organize a movie night. Here are 5 horror movies to jumpstart your Halloween spirit:

The Fourth Kind (2009)

This pseudodocumentary is set in Nome, Alaska, where there has been a series of unexplained disappearances. It follows psychologist Abigail Tyler as she uncovers startling similarities in her patients’ treatment responses. It’s extremely creepy and is sure to have you hiding under your cover – perfect for an eerie night!

Hereditary (2018)

This psychological horror follows the Graham’s as they mourn the matriarch of their family. Each dealing with grief differently, they begin to reveal startling secrets about their ancestry. Even without many jumpscares, it’s deeply unsettling! 

The Purge (2013)

This thriller depicts an America that sanctions an annual 12-hour period in which all crime is legal – including murder. It deals with a family as they face intruders looking to purge. The film perfectly encapsulates the dystopian nightmare everyone fears!

Sinister (2012)

True-crime writer Ellison Oswald moves his family to a new town in hopes of solving the local murder mystery. Over the course of his investigation, he learns about the presence of a supernatural force and quickly realizes their move may have a fatal ending. 

Scream (1996) 

Scream follows high school student Sidney Prescott, as she navigates the mysterious killings in her town. This horror classic that we all know and love never seems to get old, so be sure to put it on your revisit it this Halloween season!
