Meet Danny Burstein, Tony Nominee

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSD chapter.

Here at UC San Diego, we are known most for our strong programs in the scientific fields. The arts, on the other hand, often seem to live in the shadows of their non-humanities counterparts. HC UCSD is undoubtedly proud of our strong reputation in the sciences, and we give a huge shout out to all of our scientist collegiettes! Every now and then, however, we want to give a little love to our arts programs, and what better way to do that then to introduce you to notable graduates of the arts?

Both our undergraduate and graduate theater programs have produced a number of successful alumni, including our talented Campus Celebrity of the week, Danny Burstein.

Burstein, who graduated from UCSD with a Masters of Fine Arts in Acting in 1990, has become an absolute Broadway regular. Broadway.com, in fact, describes him as one of Broadway’s Most Valuable Players. Let us tell you, Burstein definitely has the resume to boast such a title! The actor has been in 14 Broadways shows total, including Three Men on a Horse, Saint Joan, and Titanic, not to mention his starring roles in South Pacific, The Drowsy Chaperone, Follies, and, most recently, the Broadway revival of Golden Boy.  Even more astounding, Burstein has been nominated for 4 Tony Awards; the Tony’s are the Academy Awards of the theater world, so that’s quite an accomplishment. Burstein continues to be active in world of Broadway and theater, and we don’t think he will be going anywhere!

Burstein’s prosperity not only sheds light on our amazing theater program and the arts at UCSD, in general, but also shows us current UCSD students that we can achieve great things in our respective fields, whether they be art or science-related. The post-graduation world seems more than intimidating, but our hard work and strong hearts will lead us to success.
