Garrett Gruener: the Omniscient Alumni

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSD chapter.

Have a question? We are almost 100 percent confident that our omniscient alumni, Garrett Gruener, knows the answer; in the slight chance he doesn’t, Her Campus UCSD knows which website he will direct you to. Gruener is the CEO of the well-loved search engine, Ask.com. This website acts as a search engine, similar to google and bing, but it has an added perk. In addition to web-based answers, you are presented with the option of asking “the community”. This feature allows readers to get personal, experienced answers. The question-answering software was founded and designed by Garrett Gruener and David Warthen in 1195, and is widely used til this day.

Impressed yet? If not, we know what will! Politics also encompassed a large part of Gruener’s life. In 2003, Gruener was a candidate for the California recall special election of the Democratic Party. In the end, he poured his efforts in advocating for Cruz Bustamonte, and personally finished 28th in line in a field of 135 candidates.

Gruener has an impressive history with politics and business, however, we can not be intimidated by his status. We have to continue to work hard and constantly remember that Gruener was a Triton, studying in Geisel, just like us. We are at an amazing school and the odds are all for us. Keep working hard and finish the academic year strong collegiettes!

Jasmine spends most of her time volunteering at low socioeconomic status elementary schools across the San Diego county and grading papers for classes she is a Teacher's Assistant in. Novel wise, she is an avid fan of Edith Wharton and the Lord of the Rings series. She also loves comedic shows like New Girl and The Big Bang Theory, but also enjoys thrillers like Criminal Minds. One of Jasmine's favorite hobbies is trying foods of different cultures; she loves visiting cultural nights and community festivals. Above all, Jasmine worships Beyonce (a.k.a. Beysus, Queen Bee, Baeyonce, etc). Her future aspiration in life is to become the Secretary of Education and have the Hov and B over for dinners.
