Name: Karen Underwood

Major/Minor: Political Science/ Education

Year: Senior.

Where is your hometown? Sacramento, California

What are some hobbies/extracurricular activities of yours? Currently, I’m volunteering in two different elementary schools and at Rady Children’s Hospital. In my free time, I love reading, trying new places to eat, watching movies, etc.

Relationship status? Taken!

What is the coolest/randomest event that happened to you this academic year? I had the opportunity of having my first White Christmas ever! I spent Christmas in Chicago with my boyfriend and his family and it was pretty cool, literally and figuratively.

What do you like most about UCSD? I think UCSD has a lot of really inspiring, talented, genuinely good people. I’ve been fortunate enough to cross paths with a lot of people who have helped me realize the person that I want to become.

Who is somebody you look up to? My dad. He grew up in rural Illinois with 12 brothers and sisters. Despite every obstacle thrown at him, he persevered through it all and got not only a college degree, but also a PhD. He’s part of the reason why I want to become an elementary school teacher, to help every child realize his/her full potential.

Jasmine is currently a senior at the University of California, San Diego. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a minor in Education Studies. Jasmine is the Co-Campus Correspondent for Her Campus UCSD, along with the amazing Taylor Zepeda. Jasmine spends most of her time volunteering at low socioeconomic status elementary schools across the San Diego county and grading papers for classes she is a Teacher's Assistant in. Novel wise, she is an avid fan of Edith Wharton and the Lord of the Rings series. She also loves comedic shows like New Girl and The Big Bang Theory, but also enjoys thrillers like Criminal Minds. One of Jasmine's favorite hobbies is trying foods of different cultures; she loves visiting cultural nights and community festivals. Above all, Jasmine worships Beyonce (a.k.a. Beysus, Queen Bee, Baeyonce, etc). Her future aspiration in life is to become the Secretary of Education and have the Hov and B over for dinners.
