If you are looking to learn a new language, whether it be out of mere quarantine boredom or it has been a lifelong goal that you never got to, I am here to help give some tips that helped me learn how to speak and read conversational French within a few months.

Listen to music

Although you might not understand what they are saying (at first), if you take the time to find music that interests you, you will find yourself remembering some words. Then look up the lyric translation in english, this will help you associate the words.

Watch movies

Watch movies either in that language or use subtitles! Not only does this help associate the words, but it also shows you how to properly pronounce words and also how natural conversations sound!

Visit the country

If you have the time and money, go visit the country! This is a perfect opportunity to put what you’ve learned to the test and practice with native speakers.

Makes friends

This might be a little difficult if you do not have any native speaking friends, but if you happen to have any, practice speaking with them as much as possible. If you do not know any, try apps that connect you with people across the world (i.e bumble BFF)

Practice practice practice

This is pretty obvious but very crucial. If you learn a new word or phrase everyday or once a week, imagine how much you could pick up after a year!

Learning a new language can sound like hard work and time consuming, but if you associate these 5 tips, you will be having fun along the way listening to music, watching movies, traveling and making friends. Good luck!
