5 DIY Spa Night Ideas for Girls on a Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSD chapter.

Midterms season is slowly coming to an end, and it only makes sense that we should be looking into ways we can reward ourselves for spending our past few weeks at Geisel. As much as we would like to go all out and splurge on a weekend at a spa, we need that money for Vallarta’s addictive Christian Fries. We empathize with all the collegiettes and their need to relax; that is why we came up with some easy and fun ways you and your friends can create a fun, yet affordable spa night. We want to call it the “Her Campus Relaxation Kit,” and here we go!

1. Tea Party. Tea parties are super cute, but they are also quite expensive. Dig up some tea bags from your mom’s care packages and create different types of teas for ultimate relaxation. Try to find some teas that have more herbal tastes and others with fruitier flavors. The idea of having many different types of teas will make this night different from any other.
2. Bake! I am sure that at least one of your BFFs has a 3 pound bag of all-purpose flour. Ask her to bring it to your house so you guys can bake pastries to complete your tea party. One of my favorite types of pastries are blackberry scones. All you need to create a basic scone is flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, butter, an egg, and some milk. Add berries, chocolates, or even breakfast foods into your batter to create a one-of-a-kind recipe!
3. Nail art. Have all of your girlfriends bring their nail polish collections to your house. You are sure to have enough nail polish to set up a mini nail salon in your living room. Look up fun nail art tutorials on YouTube or Her Campus and paint away!
4. Make Over. Do you have those make-up looks that you have been dying to try, but have never got the opportunity to? Here is your night to do them. You and your friends can look up fun tutorials online and recreate make up looks that your favorite celebrities donned at the Oscars. If you finish early, why not go ahead and try out a new hairstyle as well?
5. DIY Face Masks. After a long day of wearing make-up, nothing can compare the the dynamic duo we like to call “Romantic Comedy Meets Face Mask.” Play your favorite romantic comedy (ours is Think Like A Man) and prepare a DIY face mask for the ultimate facial. Make your own banana facial with ingredients you probably have at home, or can easily get from the supermarket or dining halls. Slice up a ripe banana and mash it it up. Mix that paste with 1/4 cup of Greek yogurt and 2 tablespoons of honey. If you want a more moisturizing and soothing mask, cut cucumbers up into thin slices and put them all over your face for ten minutes. As your face brightens from the hilarious movie, your masks will be working to brighten your skin for a dewy and clean complexion.

Enjoy, collegiettes, and remember, you deserve some relaxation time!
