4 Ways to Have Fun this Spring Break Without Breaking the Bank

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSD chapter.

It’s finally Spring Break here at UCSD, and you’re looking at all of those Snapchats and Instagram posts from your friends in Mexico, Florida, or at some random resort somewhere and you’re wishing you could be them. Except you’re on a budget, maybe saving up for a summer trip or just saving some extra cash to pay your rent and tuition for the next quarter. Well, here are some ways to make the most of your spring break without spending too much!

1.)  Take a road trip:

There’s nothing that says you can’t take a road trip without spending too much money. Staying at friends’ houses, cheap hotels, or even tents while driving up the coast of California or through the mountains to go camping there’s nothing better than bonding with your besties while taking in the beautiful scenery of our nation. (The Insta posts are just an added plus!)

2.)  Volunteer your time:

Giving back to your community can be really fun, especially with a group of friends! Look into organized service opportunities in your area or just grab a group of friends for a neighborhood/beach clean-up.

3.)  Learn something new:

Whether that something be a new skill, sport, or hobby, a week off school is the perfect time to spend time for yourself! Try putting together a scrapbook, paint a canvas, take a Zumba class at your local gym, or take a cooking class!

4.)  Explore your hometown:

If you decided to go back home, this is a great way to save money on housing and food. If your family is anything like mine, they’re more than willing to support your empty stomach while you’re under their roof, so a comfy bed and homemade food is a-plenty. Although some may see coming home as a routine practice, there are probably at least a few venues, events, hiking trails, or other things you haven’t explored in your hometown. So go find something new to explore!

Whatever you decide to do and wherever you decide to go, we at HC at UCSD hope you all have a safe and fun Spring Break, and hopefully you do so without breaking the bank!
