Why Spring Quarter is the Best Quarter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSB chapter.

If you are a freshman, chances are you have been hearing this phrase all year, “Just wait for spring quarter. It’s the best quarter.” No matter how much fun you had so far, how many dagers you daged, how many late night Freebirds you shared, nothing will compare to the infamous spring quarter.

And now, after much hard work and a treacherous seventy degree winter, we made it! Spring quarter is finally here! And in case you didn’t know, these are the top three reasons that make Spring Quarter, undoubtedly, the greatest quarter of the year (summer included):

1. Deltopia

Just a few days around the corner, Isla Vistans all over town will be celebrating one of the most beloved days of the year, Deltopia. This event attracts a ton of out-of-towners (similar to Halloween) primarily because Isla Vistans celebrate and party so goddamn well. Despite the out-of-towners, this event remains a cherished tradition, as houses along “the Del Playa” throw huge day parties inviting students to enjoy the beautiful weather, incredible atmosphere, and the company of some pretty great people. In case Deltopia’s not your thing, UCSB Associated Students is bringing Gauchos “The Warm-Up,” an alternative Deltopia event that offers live music, food, and activities on campus. Word just dropped that Purity Ring will be performing, making it a must-attend event!

2. Extravaganza

Each year, UCSB Associated Students is stepping up their game to bring UCSB a bigger and better Extravanagza than the year before. In light of festival season, Extravaganza offers all Gauchos the opportunity to attend a music-festival right on our very own campus. The best part? The event is free! All you need is an access card and the great music and delicious food are all yours! It goes down in epic history that Snoop Dogg and Drake performed at Extravagnza a few years in the past. We’re all dying to know what AS will bring us this year!

3. The beach

Part of what makes UCSB such an incredibly desireable campus is the beach that stretches around our little college town. There is no better time to enjoy our astounding atmosphere than in the spring. The weather is a consistent 80 degrees and the sun doesn’t set until nearly 8:00 PM. Bike to class any time of the day and you’ll see girls tanning, houses barbequing, surfers catching waves, and beers shared at sunset. The vibes are incredibly good at UCSB during spring quarter – so much so that you’ll regret not signing up for summer session.

So get in the ocean and learn how to surf! This could be the only time in your life that you actually live by the beach, which means right now, life is pretty good for us Isla Vistans. Happy Spring Quarter friends!
