Thoughts on No-Shave November

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSB chapter.

November is without a doubt one of the best months of the year. For some of us it’s the first time we go back to our hometowns since summer; plus, it has multiple school holidays and an entire day dedicated to shopping. I personally love November for another reason: it’s the time of year when guys choose to let their facial hair grow out.

The tradition can be traced back to Australia in the early 2000s when 30 friends agreed to grow out their facial hair for the entire month in order to raise awareness about prostate cancer. Today, there is a cancer awareness organization named after No-Shave November.

Here at UCSB there is no shortage of surfer guys biking around. No-Shave November is the perfect excuse for them to experiment with a more mountainous, rugged look. Here are some examples we’re drooling over:

However, sometimes growing out one’s beard doesn’t have the results we have been waiting all year for.

Obviously, beard preferences differ and in the end it is totally up to the guy to decide whether or not he even wants to participate. There are endless possibilities of how they can style their beards, mustaches, or sideburns and regardless of the outcome; you’ve got my support, guys.
