Getting involved in college can be a daunting task. With over 300 registered campus groups here at UCSB, it can be impossible to know where to start. And while Shoreline can be a great tool to see what’s out there, it can be hard to find what you’re looking for when the options seem endless.

There’s something here for any interest, far and wide. From music production to fashion, here’s a round-up of niche groups here at UCSB that you might not have heard of.

fashion club

This group’s not much of a secret, with its Instagram account boasting a following of 1,725 and counting. As a place “for all students to learn and express themselves through the art of fashion and its similar creative outlets,” it hosts a variety of inclusive events that promote expression and creativity. Perhaps what the club is most known for is its social media presence, with its highly popular “Fit Friday” series serving as a weekly spotlight of UCSB’s high stylish students. To be featured, simply tag their account (@ucsbfashion). If you have a knack for fashion and all things clothing, consider joining the club on Shoreline!

the teddy bear club

Want to volunteer and support our local community but don’t know where to start? The Teddy Bear Club at UCSB is a great club to join for those interested in philanthropy and service that helps the local Santa Barbara area. Proceeds from their events go directly to the Teddy Bear Foundation, an organization providing support to families with children that have cancer. Past events include their most recent Teddy Bear sale, a car-wash fundraiser, and delivering handmade Halloween goody bags to local families. Getting involved is as easy as joining their Discord, as well as their GroupMe and Shoreline

Sound Society

Sound Society is a great place to connect with all levels of musicians and producers who share a passion for music. Its purpose is to “promote accessibility to music production, focusing on education, mentorship, and collaboration,” and it does so in a variety of ways. Its general meetings break down the basics of music production and showcase student producers, making it a great place to hear the talent of fellow students and learn. During Winter Quarter, Sound Society also hosted a variety of events—including jam sessions and socials—that bring together all kinds of music lovers in a celebratory and creative environment. If you have even the slightest interest in music, this is a great place to get started. Join the group on Discord and Shoreline!

SB Creative Lab

Calling all student artists and graphic designers! SB Creative Lab is a place for all experience levels, aiming to promote “creative growth through workshops, design challenges, & more.” From complete beginners to experienced artists, there’s something at SB Creative Lab for everyone. Some of its many past events include Design Challenges, workshops with alumni, and their W22 project teams that provide UCSB students with UI/UX experience. This club is a welcoming and safe space for people looking to learn, express, and create with fellow students. Connect with SB Creative Lab through Discord, Slack, and their email list, and visit the group’s stunning website to learn more!

These are just a few examples of amazing student organizations here at our campus. All groups mentioned above can be easily found through a search on Shoreline, or by following their Instagrams! Collaboration and involvement are important aspects of growth, both at a personal and professional level. Take advantage of the opportunities here at UCSB and connect with fellow students that share the same interests as you!
