We are the first week into March, which means one thing—award season is officially over. The high fashion month of February culminated with the grand finale of the 84th annual Academy Awards, and celebrity fashionistas brought out their best gowns and most glamorous pumps. The red carpet was a sea of perfectly toned bodies peeking through thigh-high slits, effortlessly groomed hair, dazzling white teeth, and glistening diamonds shining enough to blind the average person. Some celebrities outfits were memorable, while others we wish we could forget. Trends emerged as A-lister after A-lister showed up in backless numbers, white gowns and of course, the classic LBD.

On the carpet, the backless dresses prevailed during this season’s award show. Rose Byrne, Michelle Williams, and Jennifer Lopez delighted viewers with a tantalizing view of their posterior, lower back, that is. This look is great because it provides sex appeal to an outfit in a unique way. Forget mini skirts or cleavage baring shirts, the backless dress is here to stay. There are many ways you can interpret this red carpet trend into your own wardrobe. While a backless gown may not be practical in a collegiette’s everyday style a shorter dress or backless top works wonders. This animal print dress is a great option for a night downtown with the girls.

If the backless dress seems a little daunting to those more self conscious out there, another trend seen during this season’s awards shows is a little subtler and easier to translate into your wardrobe. White was a major hit with some of Hollywood’s elite. Up and comer Rooney Mara took a stab at this trend as well as numerous other stars. Their pristine gowns looked bananas on the red carpet but might seem a little silly hiking through IV. Instead try a white blazer over a plain tank and a cute mini skirt. Add some gold accessories and you’re ready for a night out.

One last go to trend is the little black dress. Adele wore a classic number to the 2012 Grammy awards while Angelina Jolie stuck to this trend for the Oscars. If you don’t own a little black dress you’d better run out to the nearest shopping mall and pick one up! This is the easiest piece to throw on and never goes out of style. When picking your perfect LBD make sure it’s just that—perfect. Make sure it’s cut is timeless and its fit is perfect. If you follow those guidelines you could be wearing this dress ten years from now! This is honestly an investment piece so pick something you love.
