Reacting to the First Presidential Debate in GIFs

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSB chapter.

Unless you were living under a rock this past week, you probably saw or heard about the first presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Much of the debate, as reporter Megyn Kelly aptly described it, was focused less on policy, and more on the “politics of personal destruction.” He said things, she said things, shots were fired. Here are our reactions to some highlights of the evening as told in GIFs:

1. Trump: “Now in all fairness to Secretary Clinton… Yes? Is that ok? Good. I want you to be very happy. It’s very important to me.”

2. Clinton: “A man that can be provoked by a tweet should not be anywhere near the nuclear codes.”

3. Trump: “You’re telling them everything you want to do. No wonder you’ve been fighting ISIS your entire adult life.”

4. Clinton: “Donald started his polticial career back in 1973 being sued by the Justice Department.”

5. Trump: “I think my strongest asset, maybe by far, is my temperament.”

6. Clinton (on Trump’s plans for jobs and the economy): “I call it Trumped-up, trickle down.”

7. Trump: “I think I’ve developed very good relationships over the last little while with the African American community.”

8. Clinton: “I can only say that I’m certainly relieved that my late father never did business with you.”

Reminder: This is only the first debate.

Hi, Collegiettes! I'm Carmen, a Communication major at University of California, Santa Barbara and one of two Campus Correspondents for UCSB. I would love to one day work in either fashion, food, tech, financial services or philanthropy. My dream is to find a job that somehow combines several of those elements. Until I get there, I'll be munching on copious amounts of Trader Joe's dried mango, jamming out to my man, Frank Sinatra, and focusing on creating intriguing content! If you like my writing, talk to me. ;)
