Like most seniors, I have been doing my best to prepare myself to leave this beautiful place. I know I’m not alone when I say that these past four years have been wonderful, challenging, and most of all memorable.

With Deltopia, Extravaganza, and beautiful weather almost everyday, spring quarter is a favorite of the students here but, I can’t help but be sad that this upcoming quarter will be filled with lasts.

The most challenging part of leaving however, is saying goodbye to the people we have been able to share this crazy experience with. They all say the friends you make in college will be the friends you have for the rest of your life and I sincerely hope that’s true. I know that when graduation rolls around I will basically be an emotional wreck so in anticipation, here are some things I have done to prepare for the day we all have to say goodbye.

1. Save as many videos as you can

In order to save as many memories as possible, I save all my Snapchat and Instagram stories. I also have a few friends that are doing the one second a day videos! I know that I’ll love to laugh at all the ridiculous moments I’ve shared with my friends one day.

2. Never be shy to ask for pictures

Get as many pictures as possible! I know we all hate being that person that constantly initiates photo ops, but I mean it’s senior year you can never have too many photos.

3. Mend any broken friendships

If there was a friend you got in a fight with or someone you stopped talking to, and you’ve been wanting to get back in touch with them, just do it. I mean after all we only have a limited amount of months left.

4. If you don’t have a legitimate excuse don’t stay home

Even if you’re tired or just not in the mood, just go to what your friend’s invite you to. Soak up all the final college experiences you can.

There will be a lot of life to experience after college but there will hardly be a time all of your closest friends live less than 2 miles away from you. We will be saying goodbye very soon, but at least we still have a few more months to properly prepare ourselves.

Communication major with a Professional Writing and Applied Psychology double minor
Hi, Collegiettes! I'm Carmen, a Communication major at University of California, Santa Barbara and one of two Campus Correspondents for UCSB. I would love to one day work in either fashion, food, tech, financial services or philanthropy. My dream is to find a job that somehow combines several of those elements. Until I get there, I'll be munching on copious amounts of Trader Joe's dried mango, jamming out to my man, Frank Sinatra, and focusing on creating intriguing content! If you like my writing, talk to me. ;)
