Winter quarter always feels like the worst. It’s cold and rainy, classes feel inexplicably more difficult, and there aren’t as many exciting things to look forward to during winter quarter. Plus, there’s the comedown from the holiday season. So to combat the winter quarter blues, I’ve compiled a list of things you could do to help make winter quarter suck just a little less.

1. Make sure to get enough sun.

I know this can be difficult to do because the weather does not always want to cooperate. However, getting enough sun is one way to make sure your body gets enough vitamin D, and without it, you may experience symptoms of depression and fatigue. So whenever possible, make sure to get some extra sun time.

2. Buy cute warm clothes.

Cold weather might not be your favorite, but buying cute winter clothes may make you a bit more excited for those chillier days. Also, a bit of retail therapy wouldn’t hurt either.

3. Consume some toasty, winter treats.

Just because the holidays are over, doesn’t mean you can’t indulge in a nice pepermint hot cocoa or a bowl of your favorite soup. Get some friends together to have a fondue night or to bake some chocolate chip cookies.

4. Engage in some cold weather self care.

The winter wind can be harsh on your skin, so make sure to stay hyrdated and moisturize. Having a nightly moisturizing skin care routine can be a calming way to end a cold winter day, and drinking plenty of water will help you avoid chapped lips.

5. Plan events to look forward to in the spring.

Winter quarter may feel like a drag, but spring break is not too far away. Whether you’re taking a trip to a tropical paradise or you’re just spending some quality time with friends back home, having exciting plans to look forward to can help you get through the quarter a bit more easily.
