We all know that horrible feeling that happens when we realize that the one class we need is at 8 AM. We know that there is no way around it and that we have to do it, but nothing can knock the feeling of impending doom. While 8 AM classes are easily one of the top three worst parts about college, don’t let them get you down! Here are a few tips and tricks to help you survive your 8 AM!

Have a general idea about your outfit before you go to sleep.

If picking out your outfit is something you struggle with, lay one out the night before. If you aren’t into laying out your outfits, at least have a general idea of what you want to wear. Consider both your full day schedule and the weather. It can make your morning so much easier.

Eat breakfast.

Yeah, I get it. Eating breakfast at 7:30 AM, right after you wake up isn’t all that appealing to everyone. The last thing you feel like doing is choking down some cereal or yogurt. But hear me out: your 8 AM will be much worse without any sustenance. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and yes, we have all heard that before, but really it is. It is what starts your day off right, gives you energy to last through the morning, and kick starts your metabolism. If you can’t eat right away, at least bring something to class with you.

Try and get a decent night’s sleep.

Turn the Netflix off at a decent hour. I know it’s hard, and I am guilty of it too, but turn away from the electronics and hit the hay a little earlier than you normally would. An extra half an hour will feel like heaven.

Change your perspective.

Yes, getting up early sucks, and it seems totally unfair to have to wake up before noon some days, but think about it this way: The earlier your class is, the sooner it ends, and the more time you have for the rest of your day! Once you’re up, you’re up and you have the whole day to do whatever you need to. In my book, that is so much better than wasting the beginning half of the day or having to go to a 7 PM class.

All in all, 8 AM classes aren’t so bad if you are properly prepared, and for all of us quarter system kids we only have to deal with them for 10 weeks! Well, that is until next quarter…. Happy 8 AM’s collegiates!
